Statistics Behind Workforce Cut

Recently, there are many stories of companies cutting their workforce. I wonder among those jobs cuts, what job types are more disposable to hardware companies like nV, Intel, Asus, Samsung and AMD?

I understand that circumstances changes things. However, out of curiosity, I want to know more than just the number of jobs being cut. It would be nice to also know what kinds of jobs are being cut.

For example, are engineers more immune to job cuts? How about sales people? Marketing personnels? Support guys? Programmers?

Yup.

When companies are laying off large numbers of people those being cut (outside of manufacturing and manufacturing support) are decided based on the politics of the organization.

..any job that's routine and predictable can be replaced by a few screens on a computer. Have seen lots of clerical/HR and expediter jobs disappear and some routine technical/engineer work has been replaced with Microprocessor Based Library implemented byET's. Also a shift to Line Replaceable Units in primary repair and the Bad Orders outsourced for repair instead of in house troubleshooting/repair. The MBA's are running things now, and they're engaged in a massive race to the bottom.
