Thanx PeterN!!

To quote myself in the dpad stats post..

Although I've moved a lot of machines over to SB, my low output is still due to the electricity shortage in our sucky country and power being shut off and router to other places.. power was down for 7.5 hours today. It's on for a couple of hours and then down for 2.5 hours.. man I just don't know how the hell a country can be run like this.. and get this.. they hope these long outages will end by april and then only a couple of hours downtime a week till after 2010. It's like living in the dark ages again.. I'll say it again.. this place is going down the crapper!! :|
/end rant

I can't speak for the rest of the Red Rascals, but I'm crunching everything I can, nothing held back!

I am crunching with everything I can at this point. Next week, things will change as I go back into putting new computers into production. I may do a few this week, but next week should be the big week....

I'm talking to two friends who might have some spare power to donate to the good cause. Maybe they can be persuaded to enter the DC arena on their own. I don't know, but time will tell.

I've started in my new job three days, but there the client can't be installed. The registry is not accessible for 'normal' users. And with not even a week at work there, I don't think it is wise to start a discussion about the distributed computing phenomena just yet. Within a month there is going to be a big shift in network- and information architecture, so maybe then it is time to mention it.

On my own computer I have installed muon1 though, on behalf of the account [TA]amd.borg. Sounds familiar??? It won't produce much (not 24/7), but everything helps.

That's a bummer. Not for the output in distributed computing, but for you personally. We have had a few outages here during summer in The Netherlands, but only very short ones. Even 30 minutes was too long for me. I can't imagine several hours per day several days a week.

Isn't a generator an option? Or solar panels (provided the sun shines )
that could be profitable, if this will happen frequently until 2010 and you use a diesel generator that runs of veggy oil.

Thanks for the stats, Peter! They are much appreciated ...

Johan, I very much feel with you. I have lived in a Gambia, in an area where the power was on approx 8 hours a day - but you never knew when.

A diesel powered generator helps - but only if all the comps are in one place. IIRC you have your comps spread out - or am I wrong?
OTOH: a diesel (or veggie-oil) generator of approx. 4 - 5 kW is not too expensive in Sweden - "only" some 850 US$ or so - and it can run some 15 hours on one full 25 liters tank.
The noise is quite appalling though.

Peter & Petrus, indeed it sucks! We do have a diesel generator at work since it's the hq running all the servers, but the comps are spread out over about 500km in different towns and they don't have generators. I'll look into a gennie for the house.. might just be a good idea..

And thanx a million PeterN.. every bit helps!!

If it'd convince you to buy another CPU I could send a hard drive your way. I'm waiting on 2x250 drives to come from New York, soon as they arrive I'll be ghosting my install onto it and have a spare 40GB drive.

Jeez, I can't imagine what you are going through! I googled a bit and found this interesting & bleak article about power in the "dark continent".

My heart bleeds for you and your countrymen.

Darn, I'm still behind, trying to get BOTH C2D rigs online for SB. I have to clean off and remove this AMD rig that I've been using as my main rig, and install the second C2D machine instead. I've got a friend that has been crunching for me, using an X2 3800+ @ 2.65Ghz, I have the parts to upgrade him to an E2200, hopefully at 3.2Ghz+. I guess I should get moving on that upgrade too, so TSOs doesn't fall too far behind.

Thanks for the update. Just a few more days until a pretty big increase for me and amdborg. Hopefully the number of days until we are both in the top 10 drops quite a bit after the next week or so....

Go TeAm...

Approximate numbers so far for today:

I'm using the timestamp in de raw stats file (BST) so if free-dc also uses that, there should not be any difference.

Oh b.t.w. those are not DPC stats (actually called QiK stats).. i'm member of DPC but the stats are teamless. Since i got most feature requests from DPC most extra's are made special for DPC however the offset option is added on your 'request'

We have lousy production just now because there is a DNA-server mess-up somewhere.

Please see the "SoB error - "server busy" for the last N hours" - thread for a work-around! It really works and helps - I have just dumped over 900 GcEMs!

The (sb.)pns.net domain is taken over by networksolutions.com
I'm not sure if the sob team can regain the domain.
In the mean time, you can alter the host setting (for windows clients) in the registry to (www.)seventeenorbust.com or enter the ip (69.9.160.186). Another option is to enter sb.qik.nl, that address is an alias for www.seventeenorbust.com but will fit in the host field.

Luckily for me, I only have to check my two queues and fix those. I am pretty sure all of my clients go through those queues...

Remarks about this posting (if any)
Today the racing milestone makers are not included also. I've decided to leave them for now, because of the DNS problems almost everyone is suffering from. Our output has dropped dramatically because of this. Hopefully it will be resolved within a few days.
You can read all about it in this thread.

Next time, I'll add some more links to other threads, like SoB, FAQ and so on.

If new stats are posted, title and subtitle will be changed accordingly.

About the source of the stats
First of all, to avoid any misunderstandings . These statistics are taken from the statsbox of DukeBox of the DPC, not from the Free-DC website. On Dukebox's website there is a possibility that is not available on Free-DC. That's the reason. There will be a big difference between one and the other, because they are located in different time zones.

If you want to check the statistics, mentioned in this post, yourself, go and visit the DPC stats site. There you can also look at the current status.

The TA interteam SoB-race statistics )According to DPC stats)

These stats are from our starting date 2008-01-15 until a partial 2008-01-20, so the current status.
The race is now 5 days old.

Total team______________332.427.811
Red Rascals_____________164.460.066
The Significant Others_____167.967.745

Difference (RR-TSO)_______-3.507.679

Because of the DNS troubles, the daily output of the whole team has dropped. IJump can not reach his SBQueues until tuesday, so TSO can get a head start because RR are lacking the output of their biggest producer. Raysun2be is pulling the RR alone right now, with some help of myself (PeterN). Right now, The Significant Others are 3.5 T ahead of The Red Rascals. If this last long enough, the latter will have to pull everything they can to keep up.

There is a computer in Beaverton, OR that mus be getting a LOT of hits from SoB clients!

Thanks for the stats, PeterN!

Hopefully IJump's SOBQueues have enough work to last a few days. He should have a decent dump on Tuesday!

I hate to bring this up but what if we all just restart the race beginning on March 1st to April 1st. Let's consider this a practice run.

it seems that no matter who wins or loses at this point that the DNS issue will be the cause or will have had an impact on the end result.
