LOL

it's unlikly a 66 yr old law abiding citizen is just going to haul off and kill a kid unless he had it commin' - we shall see in coming months as more facts come to light.

How do you figure that? Oh, and for the record, I have read the rest of your illiterate scrawl on this matter.

wow....just wow. While I can understand some people saying "don't judge until all the facts are in", I find it amazing if not incomprehensible how people can defend that 66 year old fellow. He shoots a kid who merely stepped in his lawn, and who didn't pose the least bit threat to his shotgun-wielding body. The harassment, even if true, doesn't give anyone license to kill (this isn't James Bond movies).
It would be one thing if the kid had a weapon of sort and posed a threat to the old man's life. But shooting a KID in the back who posed no threat whatsoever is quite another.

Prison's too good for this lout

Irrelevant. The man did not fear for his life, therefore he has no right to take another life. Period.
How is shooting the kid any different than keeping visicious guard dogs that would rip the kid to shreds if he encroached?

this doesn't matter; if you have guard dogs that kill the trespasser, the owner will be liable for murder

If you use pigs and collect thier ****** for your garden, there is no evidence.

From reading some of the other articles about this (which may or may not be accurate) I get that:

The shooter had only complained to the police once in 2003 about neighbor problems but not about the boy. He hadn't complained since then.

Martin is expected to be indicted for murder today. One article said they were asking for aggravated murder.

The boy argued with Martin about crossing the lawn and then, about an hour later crossed it again with some friends. After that is when he got shot.

The most disturbing article is here but I can't find any others that support the claims made in it and it is from another country and it is an article about gun violence in the US.

It says that "Mr Martin opened fire from his house and then, according to the police, walked up to the wounded boy and pulled the trigger again at close range, killing him."

Also "Neighbours said he would work himself into a rage if they mowed a foot over the invisible dividing line separating their gardens."

I guess we'll see as it plays out what actually happened.

No you don't.

What's even worse is that from the article it looks like the man shot the boy while the boy was in his own yard, not while he was walking on the precious lawn.

It does NOT say that... he could have been shot on his lawn and the boy could have as little as fell over to his to traverse the distance between the two spots. But of course, there's nothing in the article to indicate otherwise yet...

And when he gets back home, he finds that the neighbors have banded together and destroyed his yard

Oh I forgot to mention... this whole thing creeps me out to no end. While growing up, we had a neighbor whose lawn was unreal, and he was way protective about it, and scary too. Now that I think about it, my nice Catholic family (6 kids) must of freaked his ass out. I can't imagine trying to ALWAYS keep your kids off the neighbor's lawn.

Would you say that the family would be justified in shooting you dead for doing so?

So basically the kid yelled "Fvck you, old man" or something similiar, so the guy grabbed his shotgun and shows him just what kind of man he really is.

Being a punk-ass kid should net you a kick in the groin, or a broken nose, not the freaking slug in the chest.

I get the feeling the kid and his friends were little bastards to the guy and he had enough. Not reason to kill him, but still...

I can't believe some people are defending this guy

I myself am quickly approaching the "crouchity old man stage" and fully understand how ignorant and disrespectful teenagers can be. I have one

But there is no justification for shooting an unarmed person, especially a kid , and especially for something as trivial as crossing your yard.

This f$cker needs to die, period.

*edit*

I'm a Texan, and even though we have some pretty "old west" style laws still on the books as Zebo points out. I doubt very seriously that any judge in this state would believe those statutes apply in this case. I would venture to say if he came to trial in Texas on this case he would most likely recieve the death sentence.

We had a nut that lived about 5 doors down that had no life except his stupid lawn. He was an old retired guy who did nothing but mess with his yard, and got very nasty when someone even walked on it. There was a house next door with 8 kids, a house 3 doors down the other way that had 13! Like nobody walked on his lawn?

One day my dog broke the cable that ran between two trees that we hooked his chain too, and he took off after a rabbit.

I heard the line snap, and saw him take off, but was in my bathrobe, so I had to put my clothes and shoes on. Of course, he ends up at the old kook's house, and that crazy old man was chasing him around with a pitchfork! I yelled at him, "Hey, WTF are you doing?" He says, "I'm gonna spear this damn Beagle here!" I walked up and we start struggling over the pitchfork and I won. He runs into the house and calls the police. Then he comes out of his garage with a shovel! I kind of figured that I was going to have to use the pitchfork on him to keep him from whacking me with the shovel, but when he made a charge at me, actually foaming at the mouth, the cops appeared and grabbed him up. He wanted them to arrest me for trespassing, and the cops said if he filed chages on me, he would be charged with assault. He whined about dogs crapping on his lawn, and the cops told him that since my dog is normally in my yard, he had nothing to do with that, and to try to get a grip on reality.

A few days later, my mom and I go to the grocery store, and there he is. He comes up and starts yelling that if my dog goes on his yard, he's gonna shoot him. I shoved him up against the frozen foods freezers and told him, very seriously, that if my dog was to get shot, or poisoned, or dissapear, that I would beat him so badly that he would beg me to finish him off, and he had to ask if hurting my old dog was worth the pain he would feel, and besides that, he would never get to play in his yard again, since the nursing home wouldn't have a yard like his at home. He tried to punch me, and started yelling, and I just told him, "I'm not fooling with you, I will put you into a nursing home if you hurt my dog!"

I guess I really scared him, as he put his house up for sale and moved to Florida soon after that!

Well since we dont know the full story, only what was reported, there is always the chance it was justified by something not in the article.

Here is a scenerio.
Old Man sees kid on his law, kicking at it and generally making a mess.

Old Man tells kid to leave, kid doesnt leave.

Old Man goes back inside gets shotgun, goes back outside and confronts kid and repeats for him to leave.

Kid says "you arent going to shoot me old man."

Kid goes for the shotgun, and the old man blasts him.
