Huh? Please elaborate a bit more. If I download the Steam client from the /new page, it will be built in Webkit ? Cause my Steam client still launches IE when browsing screenshots from it.

hmm, I like it! Reminds me a bit of Zune software, which isn't a bad thing. My only beef is that the games list is a touch cluttered, wish I could have the old fashioned single line list view. Oh well, I can still browse by the games I have installed.

The best part is custom categories... I'm gonna have to make one called "Games I have to finish" and put all the games from the holiday sale in there.

The in-game web browser has been improved as well.

That category would pretty much mean most peoples entire game list will just show up in a different tab as well lol

Something that's better is that if the game is downloading or updating, you can now control it much better.

Gah Now Steam won't start. It blinks for a second (looks like the above one) and disappears... Tried to start it like 20 times now.


EDIT: Plenty of crash files (.mdmp) have been created in my Steam folder now. Anyone knows how to open one or read it?

EDIT2: If you need to disable the beta client but it doesn't want to start at all or just starts for like a second and then crashes (plenty of people have that it seems - beta ), make a shortcut with the added -clearbeta parameter. Allowed me to go back to standard mode.

Steam used IE before to render the store and community pages within it's own ui. Now it uses WebKit.

I do depending on the game. If it has long load screens or something that takes awhile that you have no control in (say an in game flight from one town to another, instead of looking at the same screen I've seen a hundred times, I'll alt tab for a min and look at something else, normally just degenerates into porn more often then not though.

I do... but the game I play the most is WoW, which has a decent amount of instilled downtime.

How do you go to the compact view. Where it just lists the games you have like in the older UI? I don't want the whole steam window with the steam store open all the time. I don't see the arrow you would normally click to make it compact or any options.

That option is in any more. The closes you can get it is to select List option for View and right click on the Games/Cloud/etc bar and disable images, but you will not even have icons then just a list of the games.

It is my biggest complaint, and I'd like to get a list for installed and uninstalled games instead of them all being mixed together, or simply just showing all installed.

You can filter by installed games.

Yeah they've had a backup option where it splits the game up into user-selectable chunks of CD or DVD size for easier burning.

This looks pretty cool, but I do like the compact mini-view of the games list as I have it now. I'll definitely check this beta out though, thanks for the heads up.

It blew up my STEAM install, it said it could not remove steam.exe, and could not find it, then asked me for the MSI..I dl'd it, and now it won't start at all, keeps looking for that MSI file, then gives me the same error, could not remove steam.exe.

UAC off, I am logged in as administrator, there is no right click option to run as administrator.

I go into the steam folder, and I see steamnew.exe, and steamtemp.exe but those give me errors stating "steam unavailable".
