Funny, I haven't even seen how to use the cards this time. Before, you clicked one in your inventory and there was a button for creating a badge.
Not sure if this helps or not but under your user name you should see badges. It's right above inventory and below content.

These Holiday Sale 2015 cards are treated differently for some reason. The "View badge progress" button is missing when you look at cards from your Steam Inventory, but you can still craft a badge from your "Badges" page, like balloonshark said.

Total "new" games that showed up on front page during this so called sale...6. Thats right people, 6 games was actually on sale all week. The discounts you see was regular discounts on the games, it's just they put on front page.

I'm not complaining about people seeing them, you just don't really see hype for sales the way they are doing them now imo.

two thirds of my queue was filled with indie or early access crap, couldn't click through fast enough.

That's because 2/3 of STEAM is indie or early access crap. You moaned about discoverability, I provided the solution Valve was pushing. Now you complain about the content that's always been there?

Steam has always been nearly completely chaff. If you want to be told what to by, start following some gaming sites. RPS did a whole month of best-ofs, down to best FMV and best card games.

i picked up crawl. sounds like a fun local multiplayer game.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/293780/

Crawl is the local multiplayer dungeon crawler where your friends control the monsters! Battle through dungeons and power up your hero - if a friend kills you they take your place and it’s your turn to inhabit the monsters. It's a race to gain enough XP and loot to take on the hulking final boss!

Every 8 hours, and I don't know about you, but I was visiting family and outside of sleeping, had very little time to myself. I decided to engage with the people I was visiting instead of religiously browsing an online store three times a day.

What is your internet speed, carrier pigeon? It takes all of 5 seconds to see what was on the flash sales and you have 8 hours to do so. Visiting people is overrated anyway.

So, the publisher not discounting a game as much is the fault of Valve? Logic checks out. At least you'd have a legitimate reason for not liking this sale, but the format of the sale, which is the subject of my post, is irrelevant to the prices a publisher chooses.

I would argue that the format directly influences publisher prices. Before, there was a general discount price that ran the length of the sale. Then if a publisher wanted to have their product highlighted on the front page they had to offer a larger discount. Does that mean they had to do it? No. Did it mean that the general sale price was higher than it could have been otherwise? Possibly. But the point is that they had to offer a steeper discount for a time limited period.

Now there is only one discount. I believe the discounts now are generally more than they were for the general discount in the old format but still less than the old flash/daily discounts from before. I saw this in my own wishlist.

That being said I did see one item that pretty much followed the old daily sale rule and that was Assassins Creed Black Flag. It was not on sale then it was for a pretty good discount for a day before going right back up to no sale.

The old system actually put pressure on the publishers to give better discounts so that they could get in on the daily/flash focus. I am guessing that there is a correlation on the items that were spotlighted in this sale also having some of the better discounts but since the prices were the same I either bought them day 1 or did not care.

And what more do you want from a sale?

That's what's so bizarre to me. I got exactly what I wanted, at my leisure. I prefer that to being forced to someone else's schedule just because they say so. Former Steam sales weren't "fun," they were tedious. As a side note, my internet speed is fantastic. My family's, less so. Poor /s aside on your part.

It's worth noting that FC4 saw its biggest Steam discount to date during this sale. I didn't bite because the season pass was still full price, but it played out exactly like I posted multiple times in this thread.

Honestly, this is just another example of gamers whining about anything and everything. The corporation isn't manipulating me enough, I'm not saving enough money on throwaway games, blah blah.

The Extra Credits episode that discusses the JC Penney's effect was on the money. As soon as a company tries to respect their customer, they revolt. This is ridiculous.

People wonder about EA and Activision, moan about CoD, etc. It's because it's what the consumers want. They want to be jerked around, manipulated, and simply lied to. At least that's the conclusion I'm seeing confirmed over and over again in this thread.

EDIT: As for your second, non-sarcastic point, I see where you're coming from. But what kind of savings are we discussing here for the static sale versus a former flash sale?

I would also say that this is still a new sale format. The waters are still being tested. I remember when publisher packs were a regular occurence. I don't know if Bethesda charging $6.xx for FO3 over the entirety of the sale was worth it over the buck something difference to hit $5. I wouldn't have bit either way. And if we're pinching pennies over the cost of a fast food soda for 7 year old games, I wouldn't even put that blame on the publisher.

I like to save money, too, but I'm also not the extreme couponing type.

You guys whining about the steam sale need to learn to shop around. There are better deals out there that aren't on Steam. Wingamestore had flash sales if that was your thing. kerbal space program went on sale for 55% off at that site. It was a constant 40% off on Steam. Amazon pricematched a lot of the Steam deals. If you had a chase freedom you could have purchased those titles for an extra 10% off. Green man gaming had some deals running with a 20% off code that was stackable. You could also get cashback via TCB/ebates/etc. There's were also deals on Nuuvem, GamersGate, etc.

You really just want to get spoon fed deals and you don't really want any competition. Stop being lazy. Do your research and shop around.

Waits until there is another site sale post and posts cheaper prices linked on steam...

Wow, this whole post is a bunch of nonsense.

And what more do you want from a sale?
How about great prices for one of the three major sales per year? So many games didn't touch their lows, and it's quite obvious that the biggest reason for that is the lack of daily/flash/community deals.

Tedious? Because taking three seconds to see if a game you want has a flash sale is tedious? OK, great, then don't do it. Just because the option is there, that doesn't mean you have to take advantage of it.

It's worth noting that FC4 saw its biggest Steam discount to date during this sale. I didn't bite because the season pass was still full price, but it played out exactly like I posted multiple times in this thread.
That's fantastic. Guess what? That wasn't a title that had a sale price for the entire sale. That one did have a pseudo-flash sale. Kind of disproves your point. Oh, and it was only $8 at Origin for Black Friday, a fraction of its sale price at Steam.

How about all of the other games that didn't even whiff at their biggest discounts to date?

Honestly, this is just another example of gamers whining about anything and everything. The corporation isn't manipulating me enough, I'm not saving enough money on throwaway games, blah blah.
Manipulating? It seems like you're the one being manipulated here, as you're wholeheartedly enjoying paying more for video games.

The Extra Credits episode that discusses the JC Penney's effect was on the money. As soon as a company tries to respect their customer, they revolt. This is ridiculous.
How is this the company trying to respect its customer? Your example doesn't fit at all. JCP charged people less, Steam is charging more. And they're not doing refunds because they're being respectful to the customer, they're doing it because the European Union forced them to.

People wonder about EA and Activision, moan about CoD, etc. It's because it's what the consumers want. They want to be jerked around, manipulated, and simply lied to. At least that's the conclusion I'm seeing confirmed over and over again in this thread.
Again, more blowhard nonsense. At least try to make a point. Just spouting words because you can doesn't make them true.

EDIT: As for your second, non-sarcastic point, I see where you're coming from. But what kind of savings are we discussing here for the static sale versus a former flash sale?

So your big defense here is, "well, it's not worth my time, so why should anyone care?" Stop being so self-centered and realize the world doesn't revolve around you.

Give me a break.
