I loved those times; tuning my PC was my favorite hobby ever. Now I don't seem to care that much anymore. Oh well - it was fun while it lasted.

Back then also every bit of performance you could squeezed out actually helped. Now our rigs are so much more powerful than 95% of the games out there will even take advantage of, it becomes pretty bleh to bother excessively tweak now.

What edusan sez; also does the gold version include that last DLC (or has it even been released - the one comming out this year). I know that hero 6 still has the always on-line crap; but what I don't know is if it plays better than 5 or 3 or whatever (didn't really like 5 much).

The best of the series imo (6>5>3>>>>*) and it doesn't have any sort of always online crap so we'll dispel that myth right now. One-time activation via uPlay is required then you can play online or offline just fine.

Shame I'm out of cash because I could do with the Steam version of this now that I've removed and disposed of the archaic DVD drive.

Update:
So I bit the bullet and bought the Heroes Pack, which is only Heroes 5+expansions, which ended up as 4.99 total. If i was gonna buy H6 i would get it gold pack since it's only 15.99 for a total of 20.98 for H5+H6 which is better than the franchise pack (even though it includes clash of heroes). I'd figure H5 can keep me busy long enough until the H6 bundles include the expansion released today. Maybe in x-mas season or something....

So 6 before 5? there's a ton of people who have commented about the only-on, otherwise you can't save your game. Did that get changed recently?

I'm almost thinking of getting both. I have III and played a little last night, but man the graphics are tough on the eyes.

Heroes 6 pisses me off. I liked 2 and 3, 4 was kind of cool, and 5 was not bad, but I still have to finish the campaigns. Mind you, I only played the demo for VI twice. It is frigging deliberately slow to the point of killing the experience. YMMV

While I initially liked 6 (for its graphics and music), the gameplay was truly meh. It was so very slow indeed. I also hate the limited choice for Heroes; has this been fixed in any recent patch or DLCs?

THere is an always on-line component to hero VI; so you can ignore the fellow above who said there is not; also if you look at the poll in this forum you will see many disagree with CPA (6 is not in that poll; but most voters consider 3 >>> 5).

You can play the game without being online but from reviews and other forums there are items that you can unlock that are only available when online (similar to dragon-age origins dlc which simply stop working if bioware/ea server goes down).
