Bioshock is definitely worth $5. I already own a retail copy, but bought the Steam version for no disk hassle.

will bioshock run on a non duo core lappy?
a Core 2 Duo? or dual core?
I ran it on a s939 X2 3800+ at 1920x1200 fine, you will probably have to worry about the video card more than the processor.
I didnt update it at all my first play through and didnt run into any glitches, and I didnt have any problems activating.

Thanks Glavinsolo, Bioshock for $5 is a great deal, especially because the Steam version has been completely de-securomed. I might get my hands on Clear Sky also... very tempting.

Man I love Steam. Picked up BioShock.
Gibson: Pretty sure that system won't play it very well. BioShock may not even install on it -- the game requires Shader Model 3.0, but the R300 architecture only supports 2.0.
Also, I think you're confusing the minimum and recommended requirements. According to Steam:
Minimum: Operating System: Windows XP (with Service Pack 2) or Windows Vista, CPU: Intel single-core Pentium 4 processor at 2.4GHz, System RAM: 1 GB, Video Card: Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 128MB RAM and Pixel Shader 3.0 (NVIDIA 6600 or better/ATI X1300 or better, excluding ATI X1550), Sound Card: 100% direct X 9.0c compatible sound card, 8GB of free hard drive space.
