I'm at work so I can't check on any of the actual news stories, but it did happen and a lot of sites have info on it.

It's too bad; Steam's the one place I go to for safe haven, now even they're tainted :'(

why would you post on steam forums? It's like the worst place for anything except trolling.

Man, a lot of angst against Steam forums in here. Guess I just laugh at the trolls there and move on to the information I'm seeking.

Steam forums are very informative for the actual individual game forums. A lot of times there are good lists of mods in the forums and usually a good wealth of solutions for bugs/problems with games. I've always had good success using them.

That said, they are a whinefest with any new release. Normal crap, I want a refund, this game sucks, I can't believe Valve would allow xxxx to release a game in this state, etc etc etc

You'll get that just about anywhere; it's probably just more apparent there because it's a highly utilized and popular forum.

Oh I agree, I just wanted to not make it look like it was all pros and no cons to them in my view hehe

The thing is you have to have your bullshit radar cranked up to max to use steam forums because of how many idiots are on there, especially for popular games. It's much easier to do your research and lookups anywhere else. I only use steam forums for technical issues and even then its easier to just google it.

Seriously?

What forums are you guys look at, stuff for COD or something? I don't have nearly as many problems as you seem to make it out that there are.

I think the TF2 forums are probably the worst game forums of all time (and I still think it's one of the best multiplayer games I've ever played). On top of all the usual crap and whining you get with any multiplayer FPS, imagine throwing in hats, paints, clothing, trading, crafting, in-game money making stores, etc.

It's a hell hole. D:

I don't recall ever seeing a moderator do anything on the Steam forums. I've seen more moderation on the EA UK forums, which is still the worst for trolls.

I spend most of my time in the left 4 dead 2 section.

What can you say about people who ask if you need a mic to play a multiplayer game? I dont guess they have ever played a team sport in real life.

Then I like to go into the VAC section and read how someones brother installed a hack and got the account banned. Its thread after thread of the same thing - "a virus must have got me vac banned",,, or "a friend installed the hack, I did not have anything to do with it."

Then there is the counter-strike section of people complaining how bug fixes ruined the game.

Just about every section in the steam forums is a cesspool of trolls and elite players that are better then everyone else.

Steam forums are full of elite players that always disagree with everything you say.

Not sure about the first part, but I certainly agree with the second part. Unless by "elite players" you actually mean elite 12 year old trolls who did little besides complain about Valve and mate with tube socks. If you suggested the sky was blue at least half the posters there with imply you were an idiot.

Yep, that is pretty much what I meant.

LOL, I have to admit reading this section is an occasional guilty pleasure of mine. It is pretty repetitive though!

When's the last time you've been in the TF2 forums?

Each of those complaints you listed have their own individual subforums outside of the general TF2 forum (with the generic crap/whining).

The l4d2 thing I get.

It's your fault for going into the VAC ban thread. What do you expect to see in there?

CS:S - I can understand this as they completely changed how the game plays and turned off most of the game's userbase. that said, I could care less about CS:S lol.

Reading the VAC section is like getting an ice cream cone. My heart is filled with joy when I read the cheaters complaining they were banned.

And I like to do a little trolling with stuff like "you cheated, you were caught, you were banned, so stop your complaining".

Oh I agree. I love reading the threads in there So why use this thread as a reason to hate the Steam forums?

So why use this thread as a reason to hate the Steam forums?

I do not hate the steam forums, I just get tired of some of the childish stuff posted there.

There are some people in there that offer intelligent discussions, and there are others that argue with everything I post.

So, is there any worry about the Steam forum account being compromised? If I remember correctly, it's a separate account from the actual Steam account.
