Nice. I'll have to pick up a copy for myself and one for a friend when I get home. Too bad about Serious Sam, I really enjoyed those games when they came out. Great frag fest

Keep buying. Steam has saved PC gaming once and for all. There is no doubt. I bet this is becoming a bigger phenomenon, and more profitable than XBL. There's no stopping us now boys!

The number of Steam games I own has increased from 14 to 60, and I'm pretty sure it cost me less than $75.

I think KOTOR is the only great game in the list (and an awesome deal), but the other three are good deals on decent to good games. I liked TQ the least of the four but I'm in the minority on that and would still say it's worth at least $10.

I bought KOTOR in the black friday sale for 2,5$ Hehe, and TQ is a worthy game if you are into diablo-clones, way better than torchlight.

I actually preferred Torchlight, which I think is an enjoyable game for people who aren't into diablo-clones as well as those who are. It's less serious and more cartoony, but more fun as well with the exaggerated abilities and pet support/vendoring options. TQ just never really did it for me - I really hated the limited block inventory system and the fact that it's bigger and more complicated is a drawback not a bonus for me.

Still having issues with KOTOR, severely dampening my enjoyment of the game when it crashes every 1-2 hours. It hits max memory, and then 1.8 gigs, and instacrash. This happens for multiple people if you check the steam forums. It's just too buggy, though I really do want to play it.

Just added Trine, Torchlight, Indigo Prophecy(Dissapointed that the steam release is the censored version, I laughed at aussies, but it seems the US doesn't censor violence, just nudity ugh), Defense Grid, and GTA IV. Man all these games under $50 is a great deal. These include the above mentioned + KOTOR, Osmos, Braid.

Thinking about buying Zeno Clash too.

But really, I'll never finish these games. :'(

Heh, KOTOR is running like a dream for me. Even got the widescreen going though that was mainly out of curiousity since I can run the 1600x1200 natively too.

Considering the popularity of both titles I have wondered why LucasArts has never updated X-Wing or Tie-Fighter beyond the '98 texture mapping updates. ...

The problem is that the space-sim genre is considered dead and buried, at least in North America. The Egosoft's X series of games are about all there is left, and it sells primarily in Europe. I can't see LucasArts making a new X-Wing game when no one owns a joystick anymore.

I wish I could get mine going at 1920x1200, I have to stay windowed right now which really sucks.

maybe the lower settings help you a bit but it was FAR from silky smooth in spots with E8500 at 3.16. I had to oc to 3.8 just to keep out of the low 20s for prolonged dips. his E7200 would be about the same or a tad slower than my E8500 at 2.4 and here is what I got at 1920x1080, high settings with view distance down to 10 and detail at 20.

E8500@ 2.4 33.27 fps
E8500@ 3.8 47.10 fps

The key difference is the resolution.

I do have a 1920x1200 resolution monitor, but I run the game at 1280x800 and it looks good.

But then again, I've played this game extensively on the 360 as well on a resolution no higher than 720p, so the experience is relatively the same. I max out my fps with vsync at 60 fps. Occasionally it dips to ~55fps in the areas of the city with a lot of shadows (near the starting area where there are tracks above the road), but other than that, it works well.

sorry but that is not possible that you dont dip below 55 in this game especially with vsync on. I just fired up the game and ran all medium settings at 1280x800 and most certainly dipped in the mid to low 30s at times. and thats with my cpu at 3.8 and a gtx260. with my cpu at 3.0 I would still get in the low 30s to upper 20s at times with medium settings at 1280. theres no way you are staying at 55-60fps with your setup.

Considering the popularity of both titles I have wondered why LucasArts has never updated X-Wing or Tie-Fighter beyond the '98 texture mapping updates. Tie-Fighter is often seen at the top of lists recalling the greatest games of all time and I have to believe it would sell quite well on Steam at a $10-$20 price point if they updated it enough to run transparently in Vista/7 at high resolutions (1920x1200+). LucasArts is nothing if not good at milking their licenses so there must be more to the story than is public knowledge.

X-Wing Alliance.

Windowed? Really? I didn't really look into this so I do not know all of the intricacies of running KOTOR in high resolutions. But I have a 1920x1200 widescreen monitor, so I can still run 1200x1600 resolutions natively with the sidebars. So I can run KOTOR full screen just fine although they kept the menu resolutions at 1024x1200 (so tiny) and the HUD is not scaled up either. The way to get the widescreen going is that you have to patch the executable, but this doesn't work for Steam. So you have to get a no-CD crack, patch the cracked executable, and run the crack. There is also updated HUD files for higher resolutions so that the HUD stretches out properly. So far, Valve seems to be walking the line on this. They obviously do not support it but since you purchased the game and are not modifying the Steam files itself they have not come out saying that it is not allowed (though technically it probably is, they are just turning a blind eye for now).

So this works fine for me, but since I could get it to run 4:3 natively, it isn't a big deal. If others are interested this is a popular topic on the Steam forums for the game.
