If you already own a high end gaming PC, then buying a lower spec gaming PC would be rather pointless unless you really wanted two gaming PCs.
Regular desktop => Steam machine pointless unless you want 2 gaming PCs.
Desktop + laptop = Steam machine pointless.
etc etc
I thought that part of the appeal of the Steam Machine was that it can be kept next to the TV and used almost like a console. That's why its small.
But if you already have a gaming PC somewhere in your bedroom or office or something, you can just get the streaming device and hook that up to the TV. If you don't have a gaming PC, it would still seem better to get a conventional gaming PC + the streaming device instead of the Steam Machine because of $$$$ savings and greater flexibility.
A streaming device that works perfectly just seems to make the Steam Box totally pointless.
