They have the King's Quest and Space Quest collections up for $15 after $5 discount each. I already have all the KQ and SQ, I think the only games I do not have of Sierra are the Quest for Glory. They do note that some of the KQ games may have problems with 64-bit OS. These seem to just be the package deals that were put out two years back. I picked up the SQ version when it came out back then, they used DosBox to run the games but I do not recall having any real problems.

haha, sweet!

These titles bring back fond memories. The Irony here is I did not get past SQ2 I believe because back then my family had a Mac ( living at home ) and I couldnt run SQ3. Now, many years later I worry these games will run good on a modern PC with widescreen res. Also how cheesy would they be?

Still, I am tempted. Really curious to anyone here who gives them a try via steam.

I just bought the Space Quest collection from GoGamer a couple weeks back. they run very well on Win XP, and they are very cheasy still. (Which was the point; it is a comedy built on cheese)

I went back and played SQ1 and SQ5 (I had already played and beaten SQ3 and 4 multiple times). SQ1 is a remake of the original with VGA graphics ala SQ4. SQ2 is still in the original form, and the UI was difficult enough that I decided not to continue playing the game. I will probably get back to it at some point though. I haven't started SQ6 yet either.

I just the other day found my CDs for one of the older Kings Quest collections (from around 1998 or so?). Also included Dagger of Amon Ra (one of my favorite adventure games) and some other stuff. Awesome that the Space Quest games are up, will have to check that out.

edit: it's this one.

Yup, dark and murky. Watched my dad play that to the end.

Sad ending though if you remember it.

Awesome!

Now, if they would only snag Sierra's sports games and bring back Front Page Sports: Football!

possibly. I still remember waiting for the next version of the FPS Football (I believe 2000) and a couple months before release the VP of Sierra's Sports division posts on their main site that they were shutting down operations. I almost cried.

I really liked that game, especially how they wanted you to figure things out at the end. Of course, I still remember the questions and answers so once you figure it all out it's ruined (unless you are anmesiac). The first game is more interesting because you really do not need to find anything out to finish the story alive. The depth of the story and revelations that you have is completely dependent upon you.

Hrm... I'm looking into buying these off Steam. Are they generally more or less technologically advanced than the Dig (Lucasarts)? That's the only "adventure" game I can really remember playing. Are they comparable?

The Dig was released in 1995, all the KQ games were released earlier than that. (Yes, all seven of them. There were only seven.)

I suppose The Dig is technologically comparable with KQ7, released in '94 (though with an entirely different art style).

Though the gameplay style of Sierra adventures was always different from Lucasarts adventures, the most famous distinction being that Sierra adventures had a tendency to kill you in as many ridiculous ways as possible, and assumed you had plenty of saved games to restore from; while Lucasarts adventures generally never killed you.
