I don't need/want their app on my phone. So tired of companies and this practice.

Again, what is your solution? Assume for the moment that account theft is a real problem, and that the old email-centered security wasn't stopping account theft. How do you stop it?

"I don't need their app on my phone" is something you're rock certain of until someone steals your account. Then you realize why security actually does matter. It's not "companies and this practice" that are the issue, it's thieves.

I haven't had any problems with my Steam account, but I did get my WoW account stolen and used by gold farmers. Blizzard got a complaint, figured out it'd been jacked, locked the account and contacted me. I'd long since gotten bored with WoW, so I left it locked. If I'd wanted to return to WoW, my first step would have been to set up Blizzard's two-factor authentication.

Remember that before this it was a 3 day hold if you did not use the app.

In either case it's easy enough to use on your phone / tablet / pc so either use it or don't sell the free stuff they give you during these events as they will vanish like usual after the event.

I don't use the app and traded/sold cards without a hold.

I think you forget they already have 2 step authentication with phones. There is zero reason for an app.

I lost count of the number of duplicate purchases, and started noting the max number of purchases (4?)

The problem is you have to use the app to do instant trades / sells otherwise there is a 15 day delay.

It will show the time delay if you use someones trade link before sending the trade to them.

If you have not linked the app to your account yet then it will be 15 days otherwise as soon as you do link it for the first time there will be a 7 day delay before it becomes instant.

The 15 day delay is for all accounts and it's been around for awhile and before the increase it was a 3 day delay for a bit before the christmas event.

Didn't steam change their policy on this, and if you buy the same thing more than one time, you can trade or gift it away? I don't think they allow you to sell it again though.

Honestly... they're okay, but I thought Diablo was a lot better overall. I can't really even say why.. it's kind of like why I prefer Sonic All-Star Racing Transformed over Mario Kart. It just "feels better". Torchlight II is also a better game to play.

Well last I checked you need the device they log in to be authorized before they can do anything and it still uses whatever security you have set up like the mobile app protection.

It's just it seems the trading of items away was what most of the hacked accounts were causing.

In either case finally got around to buying planetbase as it had a ok 30% discount and been keeping a eye on it for awhile.

Validating via the Android Steam does remove the wait. I set it up today, and was able to sell a Summer Card immediately.

The Summer Sale cards was what pushed me over the edge to install it. Because they'd be of zero value by the time the wait expired.

Hopefully I haven't lead your wrong on 7 days. I had a lot of fun with State of Decay but only the higher priced "HD" remake is available for purchase now. This price seems kind of high but I'd keep it on a watch list.

I haven't played any of my new steam games yet. I am waiting for my new MB meaning I have to fresh install so theirs really isn't any point downloading right now. I have slow internet as well.

I already have State of Decay. It was ok, nothing special. I find it really annoying that you have to download mods to get specific items etc.

Even though we live in the Age of Entitlement, companies still do whatever they want. Very few listen to people and from the group that do listen to people, an even fewer amount actually change their product based on the complaining.

What Steam has done was listen to people complaining about being stupid and getting their accounts hijacked, then someone selling all of their stuff. So they implemented additional security features (because let's face it - people who steal Steam accounts have never met the people they stole from) as well as tossed in a two-week delay for all transactions for people who don't have the mobile authenticator. Sure, it's a hassle if you don't want the Steam app on your phone or tablet, but if someone does steal your account, they can't start selling all of your unusual TF2 hats instantly then spend all your money on copies of Secrets of the Magic Crystals.

The thing is, they are necessary. There's an actual problem, even if you haven't been a victim personally. You're the guy complaining about seat belt laws because you've never been in an accident, so buckling your seatbelt is an unnecessary hoop.

You still haven't explained how you'd solve the problem. Declaring it's not a real problem is just denial, not a solution.

Email isn't 2 factor authentication. They had email-only confirmation, and that wasn't enough. The point of the app authorization is that a thief has to be in physical possession of your phone as well has having your Steam password and possibly your email password (particularly if they're the same).

They could use SMS authorization for every single transaction. They're doing it via an app because it's easier for customers. Doing it via SMS would be like setting up the app, which some people here are complaining about, for every transaction, not just once. Open app, tap once is less work.
