When hasn't arma 3 been on sale? These days I haven't found to much on the steam sales to get. I have generally gotten older releases I have wanted at the $5 mark or under, and games in the past year that have been made in the new console generation are still asking for a good amount of money. We might see the last holidays big game releases get discounted enough during the winter sale, but probably not to the $5 threshold I usually seek.

Well I only bought Microsoft's Flight Simulator X, but for $5 it is more than delivering the fun.

Considered Garry's Mod last night at the same price but didn't pull the trigger.

Cheating by some notorious companies.
I'm talking about GTA V and Wolfenstein "discounts"

Wolfenstein still had a big discount.
GTA V selling at full price with some play-money thrown in was just pathetic.

Idk I snagged New Order & New Blood for $25 ... the discounted combo was $45 like a week ago. Have only played a bit of Old Blood so far and IMO its the best SP FPS I've played in quite some time. Hard to see how this is "cheating".

Also grabbed The Wolf among us & Fallout 3 GOY edition for about $7 each. So far not bad.

Bought the Microsoft RTS pack. Couldn't decide what else to get, though Verdun looked really interesting.

This was the first major steam sale I can remember in like 5 years where I haven't bought anything. That was a highlight for me haha.

The high note for me was getting DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE for the lowest price yet. I have been dying to try that game. It is what I went in wanting and I got it.

The letdown for me was the Shadows of Mordor GOY edition never got to the price I needed to pull the trigger. That and Portal 2 is what I am gunning for in the Winter sale.

I've kind of wanted to check out Dragon Ball Xenoverse as well, but I've got such a backlog of games that I can afford to wait until it's cheaper, since it's not on my MUST PLAY NOW list (like Arkham Knight coming out tomorrow, or Fallout 4 in November).

To me the Steam Sells are about really cheap games. AAA games in the $25-30 range are just not that good of a deal, they tend to go on sale for that price pretty regularly once they have been out a few months. So, I'm looking for games for under $5 that will entertain me for a few hours. If I get even a few hours out of of a $5 game I feel that I have gotten a hell of a deal.

I completely agree. Anything over $9.99 isn't a deal!

I spent over $100 on a lot of games that I wanted this year, and also filled my son's library up as well (new to PC gaming)

The biggest bummer for me was Project CARS. I played the game for 30 minutes and decided to return it. I guess I was already spoiled with Assetto Corsa, but I gotta say, I do like that I can now return games that I don't like. I got my money back within a day and it was very easy. I don't plan on doing this often, but I didn't want to spend $30 on something I wasn't going to play. I miss the days of Shareware

I was looking at Dying Light but even at $45 it's not worth it to me. Gonna wait it out.

I did get Child of Light and Dust: An Alysian Tale for under $8 each. I also tried transistor but requested a refund, I couldn't play it after 10 minutes. Just didn't grab me and I had no clue what was going on.

I really like Dying Light. I did a playthrough on launch with a friend and we had a blast. I was hoping for a nice 50% discount on it so I could convince some other friends to get it and do a 4 man run through. Oh well.

IndieGala had Dying Light for $29 all last week, so I picked it up there. I was surprised they were cheaper than STEAM at full discount this summer sale.

- Also, Child of Light is a great game - I even bought all of the DLC for it.

I stayed glued to InideGala - HumbleBundle- and Bundlestars - There is a lot of fluff, but there are gems in the mix. Cheap too.

I bought many games, but 3 of them I asked a refund for.

GRAV - Sucked because it's too much of a grind and time sink. And I think dancing is more retarded than cool. Overall seemed too boring. Asked for refund and got it.

Marauder - Couldn't turn camera because of crazy bugs. High resolutions are not supported. What a shame, could have been an amazing game. Sort of like fallout tactics mixed with STALKER. Asked for refund and got it.

Windward - Nice sailboats game, somewhat fun but the fun quickly wears off when you realize how much grinding you have to do. People suggest to join multiplayer games to speed up the grind, but there is few servers and few people playing overall. Asked for refund and got it.

The Long Dark - Awesome survival game. But way overpriced for what it is IMO. Many disagree. I love it but wish I paid $5 and not $10.

Age of Empires 3, Mythology and Rise of Nations Bundle - Awesome deal at $20

Fallen: A2P Protocol - A mix of Xcom and Fallout. Awesome game. Still in Alpha though.

King's Bounty: Dark Side - Nice, cheap expansion for a nice game

How to Survive - Another nice, cheap game.

Yeah I marathoned through child of light. I played the demo and really liked what it offered but couldn't bring myself to spend full asking price for it.

Depends on the game. For a few recent AAA games this sale was as cheap as they get on Steam. And since the price is higher a percentage off deal gets you back more. It's the cheap games where the deal might only be a few bucks less even if the percentage is higher.

I think perspective really matters though. For some people day one AAA games are mostly what they play, so the Steam sale is useless for anything but gee-wiz indy timekillers that they otherwise might never play.

Personally the problems of modern day zero day AAA gaming (bugs, server crashes, unoptimized drivers, etc.) had pushed me out of gaming for years. Steam, its sales, and the ability to buy superior experiences (because the bugs are fixed and the drivers are updated plus maybe DLC) for less brought me back into the fold. The Steam sale was a chance to build up my library of wish list games (including AAA titles), and so I appreciate a $25 game over the normal sale price of $33.

I will probably never buy a $50 or $60 dollar game ever again. I am willing to buy zero day games in genres I want to support (like JRPGs) but that is more an economic vote than a want to play the game.

Was happy to pick up Homeworld Rematered for less than $14. The package came with four games and represents (to me) the best that RTS has to offer.

The highlight was adding 16 games to my and my son's library for a reasonable price. The lowlight was, in my opinion, GTAV's "sale".
