I broke down and got it just for Blood Dragon. I already beat FC years ago, have no interest in 2, and only vaguely interested in 3...but BD looked fun and it was cheap enough with card credits wth.

Do they still require Uplay?

Unfortunately yes. Which is a main reason I avoided getting them, lots of complaints about it. Until recently I hadn't had any issues with Rocksmith and Uplay (until they lost my saves and can't recover them...wtf is the point of having it then??).

Honestly, fvck the cloud.

I bought the pack mainly because in 2004 I played FarCry and never beat it. Mainly because the game was too laggy on my machine back then. Runs like 300 fps now.

FarCry = No Uplay
FarCry2 = No Uplay
FarCry3BD = Uplay

FarCry3 is still downloading but I assume it's Uplay.

I played BD for a bit this morning, and Uplay isn't that big of a deal to me. Syncs up to Steam just fine and while it sucks having 2 steam like clients going when playing the game, it seems to play nice in the sandbox so far and I had no issues.

First time I've played an ubisoft uplay game. But my opinion may change after using it more.

This information (Uplay required or not) is available in Steam page of the respective game.

Far Cry 3 = Uplay

Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Uplay Account Required

I like FC2 the best. Sure the pills and the AI respawn is pretty annoying and the missions are redundant but just to go around and take out camps and loot it's still a great game and the textures are way better than FC3...actually everything graphically looks better to me. And the sun doesn't stop moving when you do, it actually has a real day/night cycle.

I just recently figured out my BD wasn't broken. I thought the save mechanism was broke, but then I finally read you have to get to a certain point for it to kick in. Apparently the checkpoint thing isn't suppose to save. I'm having a blast with it.

I finally finished Far Cry 3 today. I started it a few weeks ago, only a good two years after I got the free code with my HD7950 I had zero issues with Uplay.

Edit:
Blood Dragon is awesome. I originally picked it up on my 360, but I picked it up again last Christmas during the Steam sales. So much 80's!

Sounds tempting. Might have to give Uplay a try. Really enjoyed original Far Cry but haven't tried the others.

I'd recommend Blood Dragon just for its amazing soundtrack (but it's on YouTube anyway, just saying though, they deserve the money just for that soundtrack).

The uplay client has gotten better over the years, and its fairly unobtrusive that you hardly know its there

FarCry2 is still probably my favorite. I wish they had followed that approach through the next games, but I still enjoy the FC franchise.

Who else is still focusing on single-player open-world FPS? Pretty much nobody. I'll take what I can get.

Except when it spectacularly fails....like the Assassin's Creed Unity launch.

Yes I will give you that, it seems that anytime there is a new game launch there always seems to be issues with uplay, AC:BF and WatchDogs had the same issues.

Wonder if they don't have the server load to match or something

Uplay has eaten the saves of every game I have on it at different points. I'm not impressed.

I wish I could navigate it using a gamepad though. Kind of annoying to grab the pad and get all relaxed only to reach for the mouse/kb just to select Play. That and I really hate all the onscreen clutter it has. They choked up every single pixel with visual clutter of what is to me, just useless info and graphics.

According to Steam Enhanced, yep.

So, its still keep on walking for me. I'll pick the FC3 games when they hit GoG.

You won't play the game because of uPlay?

These games are much better than Uplay sucks.

You only live once. Don't deny the Blood Dragon experience just because of Uplay. Seems petty.

I tried to go back and give FC2 another try after finishing FC3 (which I really liked) but it doesn't seem to run correctly on Windows 8.1. Even with the unofficial mouse fix released by MS the game is unplayable due to the mouse not tracking correctly.

Just a heads up for people thinking about installing it.

QFT.

Aside from some mild trouble installing Blood Dragon I think I haven't had any problem with uPlay. It's a less robust client and I think part of the problem with it is it feels like a glorified launcher without much of an independent reason for being, but FC3 and BD are well worth it.
