Red herring fallacy. Do you even lift debate bro?

Let's try this again. The claim was that gamers are not using Epic. That is factually incorrect. Profitability is an entirely different discussion.

It's funny. They've been giving away free games since they started and they are still decades behind Steam. Not even free $60 games can bring people to install that hot garbage.

Searched up Epic game store and it's still hot garbage. My point still stands.

The argument is that EGS is trash, not that people use it. OFC Fortnite kiddos use it, they have to, but everyone else snags free games off the service (a program which will be winding down because even with free games no one is actually going to EGS to actually buy anything) and then promptly forget about the store.

Launching on EGS is like launching into a marketing black hole. Everyone forgets about your game in short order and then has a confusing sense of deja vu when the game launches for real patched up and on sale on Steam where people actually buy and play it.

Steam has effectively become synonymous with PC gaming. I personally use Steam to replicate a console like experience on my Steambox (launch into big picture mode and you can use a controller from your couch from boot-up to shutdown) and that alone discourages me from picking up games anywhere else.

When using EGS I tend to make a desktop/start menu shortcut so the game launches EGS.

In my estimation, the main reason why Steam has a near monopoly on PC games is because if, say, I wanted to buy a new game, why would I buy it on another digital store? I mean, virtually all of the games I play are on Steam.

Now, if EGS or other digital store were to offer a discount, then I'd consider it. However, no way if they're the same price. I suspect for most PC gamers, there's just little incentive to purchase a game on non-Steam platform, all things being equal.

Now, if GOG can manage to get all the games, such as FromSoft's, then there's some competition.

- I really appreciate GOG and what they're trying to do. They're the only storefront other than Steam that "isn't just a store" (cue @DAPUNISHER 's laughter) and is really helping progress PC Gaming as a medium forward thanks to their offline installers, zero-DRM, and retro game preservation in general.

Unfortunately, thanks to their core mission, they will always be a bit/niche player in the storefront scene only snagging titles from relatively progressive publishers well after any real sales potential of the titles is gone.

Some friends of mine treat it the same way. They say it's the UPlay for certain games - in that they'll install it when they're playing that one specific game and then promptly uninstall it the moment they're done with the game.

I love GoG for their offline installers, but it's always disheartening to see that their library pales in comparison to Steam and their sales are usually on-par as well.

At least for me, everything works, auto updates, offline mode, and all games are incredibly stable.
Gotta say I hate auto updates. Think of the GTA games where updates a few years after launch remove songs from the radio stations in the game. Like WTF I paid full price for this game, are you refunding me anything for the content you removed? Or in Elden Ring where one update took the Radahn fight from being super challenging to easy.

I've just disabled EGS and Steam to launch with Windows. I don't see any reason to uninstall it.

Good point here.

I was late to ER, and never had a chance to experience pre-nerf Radahn. When I had fought him, he was particularly challenging, and it was bit of let down. I had heard so much about how hard the fight was and lore wise, he was by far my favorite character in the game.

After having completed Sekiro, I actually think the Demand of Hatred was more challenging than nerfed Radahn.

If you hate EGS there’s this open source alternative launcher. You can use it for EGS, GOG and Amazon games. They even have a portable version:

Crikey. I did not realize this works with windows.
