Well even a Framboise has its place, generally as a dessert beverage. I haven't tried a belgian quad yet, a few Trippels that I liked, but my problem is my local beverage store has such a huge selection from Belgium and other places, and alot is so expensive, that I will resort to something else(aka domestic microbrews) because if I drop $10 for one 500ml bottle and hate it...well seems so wasteful.

That's the truth .. cost is the major pain with Belgians. I'm a big fan of geuzes/lambics and a good bottle of Cantillon Grand Cru can run $30 for a 750ml. You can generally find the basics like the three Chimay's for around $10/750ml. I usually keep some Lindemans Framboise in my fridge because, like you said, it's a fantastic desert beer. I'll bring it out with devil's food cake or something of the sort and it's a wonderful pairing.

Yuengling did it as well. They just decided to raise the price of a case at some point and bam.. people assumed it must be high quality since it was "more" expensive.
You don't always have to buy Belgian to find good belgian-influenced beers stateside.
Look for Ommegang Abbey Ale. I think they're out of New York. It's a really good representation of a Belgian, abbey-style ale. It can be found for around $8 per 750ml bottle.
Another decent one that isn't quite up to par, but is great for its price is the Abita Abbey Ale. 22 oz bottle for $4. It's a heck of a value. Don't let Abita's reputation (their other beers aren't good) scare you off. This is a good abbey-style ale for a great price.
Dunno where you are at but I'm a couple hours from their brewery in PA and Yuengling prices haven't changed. Trust me, I've been drinking plenty of it over the years.
