Step-up Path

So, I have the 8800 Ultra and my step up ends on March 13. Will it be worth it to step up to the 9800GX2? I play at 1920x1200, so would the 256bit bus width be good enough to keep up high framerates?

All advice appreciated.

bad idea... buy a 8800GT or GTS today, and sell the ultra on ebay... recoup as much money as you can and later step up from whatever you bought. The ultra is so expensive you are just loosing money. And it's resale value plummets by the day. It will tank the moment a 65nm card with 2 SLI plugs is released.

Well, I only paid $450 for it from Dell. When all of us got in on that MSI deal, they screwed up and cancelled my order and for a consolation, they gave me the Ultra for $450 shipped to my door. That's still a lot of $$, but it was such a good offer, I took it. That was Dec. 13th....Here it is 2 and a half months later and I was hoping that the 9800GTX would be out.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Ultra, but if I can step up to something that will play well at higher resolutions, then I'm in! If I have to keep the Ultra, that's not so bad either.

well the GTX wouldn't be out until "end of march/begining of april"... so no luck there.. only the GX2 comes out in march 11th.

also...what is the order date shown on your receipt? is it earlier then Dec 13th? they will probably go by that date.

If you can sell it on ebay for more then 450 you could just pocket more money
I know people who sold their 8800GTS 320MB/640MB and bought a 8800GT and actually made money on the transaction. (and a faster card).
You could always keep on enjoying it.

You do know that evga has an "absolutely no cross shipping" policy for their step up do you? also quantities are limited by stock, so the 980GTX will probably not be an available step up option on release, only some time later.
In step up if your old card is valued higher then the new card (both go by their MSRP which is completely irrelevant to real prices) then you don't get paid the difference...
