yeah, this seems like a good way to start a gang war

i'd love to see the OP try to carry this out in Oakland. It'd probably result in a gang war... LOL

doubtful even there...however, apparently in ATOT's eyes simply calling the police is enough for the bloods and crips to hunt down one's whole family.

Neighborhood watch where you call the cops if you see something bad/suspicious ... is good
If you see somebody doing something illegal, approaching them and yelling "hey you, what the hell are you doin" ... is good, though risky
Sitting in hiding, waiting for somebody to strike, then beating the crap outta them ... is gonna get you in a lot of trouble either revenge or arrest

Most of you guys have gone off on a tangent anyway. This is not a 'neighborhood', it's a county dog park. Actually the homes bordering that park on it's lake are 7 figures even now.

The scourge of the earth are coming as far as 1-2 hours away to do these. Many of these women have several hundred dollars in cash on them, the last one lost $300 and a $1000 handbag.

Florida's laws and the police we talked to know the deal, we will be in fear for our lives and only trying to stop bodily harm to us.

I have put people in the hospital already when I was younger. I was never arrested for anything...most I had to do was make a statement and provide ID.

Until people start caring, crime is going to continue. Most think a burglar goes right to jail for several years, truth is they are usually back on the street the same day on probation or take the time in jail till their court date knowing most will get off with 'time served' and no probation probably.

You're in Florida? Why not concealed carry? Or hell - open carry for that matter.

you'd have to be a dumbass to use a firearm in a public park...the break ins are happening within 10 yards of where people are sitting.

we covered the revenge thing....we are good as far as not getting arrested as well.

If someone is doing something illegal and you approach them yelling...what do you think the next thing that's going to happen is? He hands back the bag and says "my bad bro, you got me...I will just sit and wait for the cops dog."

While I do believe in protecting my home and to a lesser extent, my neighborhood, I am not a huge fan of baiting or entrapment.
I do enjoy hearing a man scream as a dog eats his gonads off.

My house was broken into on the 3rd...my neighbor's 2 months prior. His neighbor the month before. We live in a nice neighborhood that had been pretty crime free for decades.

Got a dog, now the dog park I drive too is getting smash and grabs to the tune of 3 a week between 5 and 7pm...there have been people in the parking lot during these...everyone is just fucking clueless or sees/hears and doesn't want to get involved.

We have formed a small group now of about 5-6 of us that are watching and making phone calls. We have had the police pick up a few suspicious characters...nothing has stuck, but no break-ins happened those nights either.

We are taking it to the next level. Bait car and someone hiding out. Rest of us waiting. Really can't pack here as too many angles to cover and too many people.

I am bringing my Fox 5.3 and lining up a nice piece of wood and a rock....

I seriously believe that until the citizen's take a stand, crime is going to run rampant. Most police forces are focused on revenue generation right now (if not always) rather than targeting law enforcement costs.

True story, there was a new community that went up in the middle of a ghetto area. Most bought and moved down from other areas so they only knew what they saw in the brochures, videos and a quick drive through.

Anyway soon after there walled community was targeted.

One guy had enough and just left his garage open and knew one day someone would come.

He had a freaking machete waiting.

Some punk came in and started wheeling out his lawnmower...yelled out to a 'friend(s)' to come get more.

That was about he time where his arm was nearly severed off at the shoulder.

It's been about 12 years since and there is not much break-ins. A kid that lived there at the time recently was on a bus with students from the school that is right outside that area...when he said he was from that neighborhood...one kid asked 'that the same one with that old man that almost cut some kids arm off?" then others chimed in with embellished tales.

For posterity.

Having your HOME broken into and robbed is a first class attention getter. It's not something you forget or forgive likely.

Alk, your situation is why I've intentionally moved up into a once totally rural area, up with the cows and the fundies. I can pee in my back yard, and I never lock anything.

I like it that way, and if I were in your situation, I KNOW I wouldn't be able to help myself from going all vigilante, which can have serious unintended negative repercussions, given our litiigious and justice-free society.

I live in north county San Diego (very suburban area) and I pee in my backyard.

I am disappoint...

please read. We have spoke to police already. Like I said I can't give too much detail out, but what we are planning on doing would not be illegal. We have a right to protect our property and that's all we would be doing.

We are assuming that due to other cars being broken into a car we are leaving our property in would be likely targetted.

bet you feel like a big man now.

Hell, at 6-1 and 260 lbs, I AM a big man...

But as usual, you missed the point...so I'll 'splain it fer yaz...

Rather frequently, here on ATOT, some poster or another takes it upon themselves to either forward a thread to the local police department...(Harvey comes to mind in a few occasions) or else, simply makes the suggestion that someone do so.

THAT was my point...I was very surprised that no one had made the suggestion...yet.

I certainly understand the desire to fuck up some thieves, (hell, there ought to be a fucking bounty on them) I see more ways for this to go bad than good...

But hey...y'all's in Flahdah...have y'selves a ball.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that there are some laws against setting traps.

EDIT: Yep, definitely illegal.

A booby trap may be defined as any concealed or camouflaged device designed to cause bodily injury when triggered by any action of a person making contact with the device. This term includes guns, ammunition, or explosive devices attached to trip wires or other triggering mechanisms, sharpened stakes, nails, spikes, electrical devices, lines or wires with hooks attached, and devices for the production of toxic fumes or gases.
If a person sets up such a trap to protect his/her property, he/she will be liable for any injury or death even to an unwanted intruder such as a burglar. It is illegal to set a booby trap on one's own property to prevent intruders.

But this is nothing like that. Bait car =/= booby trap.

Maybe if enough of this slime gets the shit beaten out of them, they'll think twice before trying it again.

Oh don't get me wrong... I'm a pretty big fan of some good-old vigilante justice... I'm just saying that if something happens, the OP and his neighbors might be held liable.

Um, move out of the ghetto?

With the rampant illegal immigration this country is experiencing it seems that where ever you live Mexico is bringing the ghetto to you. It is definitely time to start taking a stand.

Mexican ghetto > white trash ghetto every day of the week.

Bullshit. It doesn't matter what kind of ghetto it is, it will still be filled with the same human garbage. Mexican garbage, white garbage, black garbage, they are all the same. Everyone knows this.

Not even true, Mexican people, even in super shitty ghetto areas tend to keep what small yards they might have ultra tidy. And they'll typically have goooooood Taco Shops scattered around. White & black ghetto areas tend to be full of people who let their places go to hell. And you don't get the delicious Taco Shops either.

IIRC, a felony conviction in Florida precludes one from purchasing a firearm or gaining a CCW permit.

Isn't that right Alky?

Poor little alkemist. He wants us all to feel so sorry for him. And now he is going to do something about his problem. Alkemist is going to change the world, become a self appointed man of justice and quite possibly become a criminal in doing so.

You know what alkemist: GROW THE FUCK UP, take your losses and move on.

Your attention whoring is becoming pathetic.

I believe federal law prohibits any felon in any state from posessing a firearm.

This could seriously end bad though man. The best thing to do is get cameras. Record it all. Have their faces on camera to be ID'ed. Scare them off before they get the stuff though. Nothing is lost and the cops can pick em up.

I had some thing stolen a few times. What I did was put gravel all around the house. That way it makes a lot of noise and they can't sneak around. I also put up motion lights all over. no way they will stick around when those go off. Never had a problem since. Put up a camera or two and you're set. Maybe a small fence in front and grow some pointy bushes all around. Put some lights on timers too. It's really not much to do and works.

Good idea(s)

We used to get cars broken into every time we had a "free garbage pickup.. I would happen twice per year like clockwork.. Free garbage pickup = parades of scavengers driving around picking through everyone's garbage. Guess if pickings were slim they think its ok to help themselves to stuff people aren't throwing away..

Anyhoo,

Neighbors and I simply put up motion lights up and out of the way & it seemed to do the trick.
