Yep, people get too emo over one guy. Fact of the matter is that Apple will not miss a beat without Jobs. All this emotional crap is for the birds, Jobs was simply a figurehead. Of course he had the vision for many of their products but it wasn't something so revolutionary that it's going to stand the test of time. The iPod is a great example: how many people will own them in 10 years? Jobs capitalized on current technology to make it friendlier to the masses which is commendable but let's not act like he reinvented the light bulb. He sold his simplicity to the masses and tricked them into buying it at double the price, Apple is the king of selling water to a whale (marketing) and that's why they'll always be around. There's a sucker born every day comes to mind.
Again...
I wanted a laptop that wasn't plastic, wouldn't look like crap in a year, had a good warranty, and was built simply so if I did need to replace something, I could easily. I'm not sure about you, but I took apart a Gateway notebook. After taking apart 3 layers of crap to get to an inaccessable fan to blow out the dust, it took me 6 hours to put it back correctly, after about 60 screws. All PC notebooks are built like this.
Unlike Apple, simple, elegant, well built and good looking.
If this was so "easy", why hasn't any other company built a notebook like it? HP Envy - half plastic. IBM - half plastic. Asus - half plastic. Dell - none.
Same with the iPod. No other company has been able to come up with a good quality product that isn't a plastic POS. Every iPod I've ever had still works, including my iPod I bought in 2003.
That's not true of my Mom's iRiver or my brother's Rio.
Further, nobody has been able to integrate the player with the software and get the music industry contracts like Apple. Nobody has been able to replicate the apps store like Apple.
They may have not been first in both areas, but they certainly have made them far better and appealing to the masses.
