Steve Nash vs John Stockton

whose your favorite? I think both are great, but I dont miss john with nash playing so well in the recent years...he makes watch basketball entertaining.

i still think mark cuban messed up when he didnt resign nash to the mavs.

Well don't forget that Stockton had a Hall of Fame finisher in Malone, and Nash has Marion (who I don't think is as good as Malone was). Also, I think Nash is better scoring off the dribble, he can run circles around people. I don't remember Stockton ever having the penetration abilities of Nash, and I think it shows in that Nash is always a bigger threat to score than Stockton. Regarding defense, Stockton was better but Nash makes up for it with a better career 3pt and FT%'s, and they're close on FG (Stockton edges him by about 3 so far). Offensively Nash is better IMO, Stockton better defensively.

Exactly. He was also unfortunate enough to play in the same era of huge players and huge personalities like those of Hakeem, Isiah, Ewing, Bird, Dominique, Magic, Jordan, Barkley, Robinson, etc. so he never garnered much MVP consideration then.

I totally agree with you. I was looking at the john's stats again and he only averaged about 13 pts a game. I think he was surrounded with finishers and wasnt really forced to score like Nash is. I think if Stockton was forced to score, I think he could do it in multiple ways. If he was younger and in steve nash's position in phx, he would be getting similar numbers!

So Nash didn't win Game 1 of the Suns/LA series? LOL
And in Game 4 where they were robbed by the refs, he was the one who wanted the ball and wanted to shoot the FT's.

Basketball intelligence wise, stockton is probably smartest of all time. I dont think anyone has his type of on the court IQ.

Wouldn't you say that's just more a testament to his longevity and not as much skills? Much like Emmitt Smith breaking the all time record over Sweetness, but Emmitt never had more pure skill than Barry Sanders or Sweetness IMO.

He did play 19 seasons (only 2 were cut slightly short), that's a long time.

one game does not a clutch player make. Nash also blew a couple games in that series.
