STi Mobile LG Color Flip - $80 with $80 airtime.

i did a search, found no existing thread. cheapphonecards still has the best deal on casual use cell phone.
STi is still a pretty good deal for many when you consider the phone deal and the rates/fees.
i bought a phone for my friend through cheapphonecards.com, got a LG125 for $80, but it comes with $80 airtime, and i used the coupon code lgphone10, which saved another 10%

This sounds better than the large rebates they were doing. The rebate deals started requiring so many minutes of call time each month. Still have the LG1200 mono flip phone they paid me to buy a year ago (AR).

Please don't support STI. This is not a reputable company, and their phones were dumped by Staples for a time (but I think they're back now). Many problems with rebates over the last 6 months, and they're constantly changing plans.

FWIW, I did the Staples deal last year and got my rebate right on time. My son hasn't had any problems with the phone but I do admit that they time I tried to call support I ended up on hold for over 30 minutes.

I have two STi phones and had no problems with rebates. It takes a bit long to get it, because it requires two months of use before rebate will be processed. Generaly STi is the cheapest as for airtime, as for phones itself. It would be bad if this company will go out of business. AFAIK no any other company offers free phones. Airtime is much expensive as well. For example virgin mobile offers phones in range $50-$200 and you pay $.25 for a minute. Thank you for finding the deal. I'll obsolete my old STi phone and get the new one.

I have had a net10 phone for the past five months. It has been great. The Motorola C155 phone has worked very well, apparently on the Cingular GSM network. One is required to buy a 300 minute card every sixty days for about $30.00. So it is $15 a month for a light user.

Right now they are also including 300 minutes and 60 days of service with activation. The phones are 40-90 dollars depending on model.

If you can get T-Mobile service, phones such as the Nokia 6010 are regularly available for free AR or close to it. The per-minute cost is less than $0.10 if you buy a 1000-minute card from someone like cheapphonecards.com (something like $92 for it with coupon right now). Could even be less if you buy the card with a coupon at any of the office supply superstores. And there's no $0.10 per-day charge, the minutes last for a year, all refills extend service for another year, etc.

So your upfront monthly cost will be less than $8 a month for the first year of T-Mo, but all subsequent years will be way less since you can dump $10 into the phone once a year to extend service. STI will always be a minimum of $3 a month, and knowing these clowns it could go up at anytime. T-Mo is the better deal all around unless you're just really cheap and can't afford the 1000-minute card upfront.

So the only reason to go with STI is if you can't get or don't like T-Mo.

I bought 2 of the Samsung flip phones from Staples last December and activated both on 12/30. Offer indicated rebates wouldn't be paid unless kept active accounts for 90 days and must make at least one call every 60 days.

Received both $100 rebates last month. Never had to complain to Staples or STi-Mobile regarding rebates or service which is better in SoCal than my T-Mobile service which has dead zones in LA and OC areas. PLUS STi offers 24/7 mobile web access through the Sprint network for just $6/month. Google Local looks good and satelite maps too.

There is a thread here with info on Sti and other prepaid service. Search if you wish.

STi csr have been helpful when needed and I never had to wait for more than a couple minutes at odd hours.

Currently they charge you $010 per day against your account balance. Plan #1 calls bill at 12cents/min prime time and 10cent/min nights & weekends.

I challenge you to find a better deal (especially if you just need a phone in the car for ocassional use).

oops... just spotted a catch on this particular deal: *Promotional airtime is not transferable or refundable and expires 90 days from activation. The reference is to the $80 (minus $4.95 activation fee); so they want to be sure you use it for 750 minutes minimally ($75 x 10minutes)

T-mobile coverage is spotty where I live. I like T-mobile, and the free t-zones limited web browsing, but the STI phone works better as a phone for me.
