This forum used to be fast. When the subscriber thing begun, then it became slow. Make sense, otherwise few would subscribe. This is call discriminatory pricing. Put the cheap guys to misery so that they want to upgrade. Too bad, there are other free competitors.

If I do remember correctly...you don't get any type of refund if you are banned.

of course you dont. if you get kicked out of a movie for being a dumbass, they dont give you 5 out of the 7 dollars back if you get kicked out in the first hour.

subscribing does not give you immunity to the rules.

I should have expected it since my post was as lame as your response. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously. That is a bad analogy since I would have had a friend open the side door so I would have gotten into the movie for free and would not expect a refund & as far as "subscribing does not give you immunity" where did I ever say: Hey, I can act like a jerk because I have paid a subscription fee?

Offer the faster pay service, and then purposely slow down the site to force the suckers to subscribe. I just go more and more to FW instead. I will not post any more deals here that I find, because the site has slowed down too much, and it is more difficult to post replies. Well, on to FW now...

Well, I was banned for a while and didn't get prorated, which is pretty sh*tty. Unlike a movie, you're prepaying for a MONTHLY service and SHOULD be refunded for months unused. It's in their contract ToS, although a chargeback would undoubtedly be in your favor - its not legal, regardless of what the contract says.

Nice try bud. It's not discriminatory pricing because it costs AT money to keep the forums open. It would be completely within their rights to close the forums to non-subscribers altogether. Consider yourself lucky that you can get the material at all without a subscription.

Not that I don't love this place, but that question has been nagging me for a little while.

Well, as long as the forums don't require money to access, people are still going to visit it no matter how slow it loads. I find it extremely difficult to believe that 100% of the members would opt to be a paying AT subscriber, even if the forums are a great place for resources and deals.

From the money this forum saves me, $30 to subscribe is more than worth it. Plus I like to support sites that provide solid unbiased information to the tech community.

Tung, or should I say Dung: If you get no value from AT then go drag your ass somewhere else. I'm sick and tired of people who think they're somehow owed or entitled to web services they routinely use. AT is a useful place, and it's also a business. It would suck if they went under, their fees aren't unreasonable ergo I subscribed. I get "value added" because of it.

I support things I find valuable to me. Must be an odd concept for you.

Calling us idiots for this is just plain silly.

Nobody seems to mind paying $35 for a Sam's card for the privilege of spending your money with the largest retailer in the US on some oversized packages of junk that you can buy elsewhere for less if you know how to shop. As far as I am concerned Sam's should pay me to come to their inconvenient cavern.

Well, the small cost of subscribing offsets the cost of equipment and the net connection. So obviously if everyone subscribed, it would still be fast because they equipment and the pipe would be upgraded.

if the kicked out all non-subscribers i dont think i would return here because 85% of the content would be gone and IMO things get pretty slow here as it is

i doubt more than 30% of the regular visitors subscribe

anyways a free trial would be good for non-subscribers to see what they are missing

well never see the days of drugstore.com valueamerica etc... again for quite a time. if only AT had subscription then they would have made out alot better.
