I have an XP 1600 + cpu and XP pro.
I went from 256 to 512 DDR and noticed a difference after closing out a lot of programs, the desktop screen would pop up quicker.
Exiting BF1942 with 256 memory it would take a while for the desktop to appear.

Got my 512 Ram, however it doesn't work with my Samsung 256 PC2100 for some reason..It reads 768 MB Ram when it boots up, but Windows doesn't load...it just sits there in a black screen..can anyone explain this? (Windows loads when just one of them is plugged in)

Dell from my experience only uses Micron memory. Crucial also uses micron chips. Crucial does however make thier own pcbs and they are higher quality from what i am aware of.

Crucial will always be a favorite as long as they have their lifetime warranty. Never had a stick die yet, but its nice to know i can get one replaced right away if need be.

EDIT: Yes hawkeye's post below is correct, Crucial is a division of micron, as most of you already know.

Also those of you who are ready to pounce on some crucial 512mb if pc2700 for under 70 bucks check this thread out.

Without actually taking the few seconds to go to the website,
I always thought that crucial was a division of Micron, thus it would make sense that they only use Micron chips.
Please correct me if I'm wrong and someone has actually gotten other chips on Crucial RAM.

-BTW, my stick of 512MB just got ship, never had 1GB of RAM before... wonder what that will feel like...

Micron != crucial
Crucial is a division of Micron. Micron makes all kinds of chips. The chips they make for Crucial, while technically are Micron chips, are at a certain spec whereas the ones they release for general sale on generic PCB's are another. Their FAQ explains this I believe on crucial.com

If you see "Micron Chips" they are not to the same spec as "crucial chips", even though the same company made them.

Just got my stick. Its running along side a crucial pc2100 256mb at 166mhz which is PC2700.
Which is pushing a XP 1800 "B" @ 2400.
Good deal might just go and get another stick

I am running the stick at 155FSB @ CAS2. I can't/don't push any further because my mobo is KT266a.(8kha+) I am certain it will go beyond that if I only had KT333 or NForce2 mobo.
