Additional features (besides the not having to worry about the refurb bit):
Dolby® Digital EX and DTS® ES
6.1 Channel (extra rear speaker)
3 Digital inputs (2 optical, 1 coaxial)
3 S-Video inputs
2 Component Video inputs (with switching - for dvd and satellite)

The HT-S755DVC (same system, but includes DVD player?) gets the highest CNET rating of any of the HTIBs.

Any idea what the model number of the DVD player is that is included in the HT-S766DVC setup?

Also, this clearly appears to be better than even a new (not refurb) combo of the TRS+speakers discussed in this thread, right?

i got sucked into replacing my cerwin vega re-30's/old school harmon/kardon with this sytem. i've had it for about 3 weeks now and have watched a few movies on it. while i won't rave too hard, i certainly think it's worth the money and it has performed very well. mostly i think my ears need to adjust away from the CV's to the way these speakers sound. definitely a fun toy at a very reasonable price. i don't mean to deter anyone at all. if you're in the market for a HT system, this is a great way to go. sub has some juice, speakers sound pretty good and amp is hefty without a lot of stupid sh*t manufacturers like sony tend to tack on for a price increase.

one issue to ask those who own the system: is there a way to boost the volume of the rear speakers? they seem a little quiet for movies...

check page 20 of the manual.

yes, it has an extra channel which allows for 6.1 audio and it also has component switching. aside from the extra channel, there should be no different in terms of audio performance since the speakers and power output specs are the same.

my hts 650 was delivered today at my parent's house since i can not receive packages at my apartment. i went to pick up the gear and ended up leaving it in their garage. for some reason, i thought the receiver and speakers would be in sperate boxes, not a single box that was over 100 pounds. i deemed the box far too heavy for me to carry up the stairs into my apartment alone and it was raining so i did not want to carry everything up seperately.

Can someone tell me if the receiver gets heated up after some playing? Is it more than slightly warm by hand?

Got any idea of how long they will be on sale?

My wife and I checked out the HT-S760 at a local Circuit City and were impressed enough to go ahead and buy it. There didn't seem to be any particular reason to purchase it instore and lug it home (plus I wasn't driving my truck) so I figured I would go home and order it with the free shipping. Turns out that circuitcity.com is out of stock for direct ship (I wonder if they figured the shipping would be too expensive to eat). Sigh. Looks like I'll be going back to the local store to pick it up since they have it in stock. The salesman was willing to offer free shipping from the local store to my house, but at this point I'll just put it in the back of my truck.

The CircuitCity.com sale ends 5/31/03. Normal price on the HT-S760 is $599. The B&M also has the sale price of $499.

Brian, inside the BIG box are several smaller boxes. One for the speakers, one for the sub and one for the receiver. Each separate box is easy to carry. You will love this system, it smokes.

Thanks. I spotted the FW discussion on using the MSN dollars and an hour ago I ordered mine for pick up today. Yesterday, circuitcity.com wouldn't let me order online, but today the 760 is available.

I'm pretty pleased with $541 including tax + $100 gift certificate equivalent.

I saw a person requesting this link so I figured as my first post, I would bump it.Not sure if these are still available and I didnt read all these posts.

I will also say thanx to whoever posted this, I ordered a week or so ago and my system is hooked up and sounding good, except for 1 speaker which was rattling from not being tightly enough put together.

What a bargain.

Question on settings:

I helped my GF set this up and I'm not getting the "ground shaking" effect from the sub. I've tried all of the settings for the sub as well as bass +/- and I had the sub output dialed to the max. Am I expecting too much from it?

Thanks

the sub it not going to be cracking walls or anything. if you are used to high end home theater subs or being in cars with enough bass to make you sick, the sub in the hts 650 package is not going to cut it. the included sub is good for low end reinforcement but fails to hit REAL low which is probably what you are looking for.

first up, have you tried moving the sub into a corner of the room?

My receiver heat up too, probably like freshly baked pizza. But I guess it is normal, since it has been so for 1 year and everything is fine.
