For the last 6 weeks I've called the closet Target, Walmart, GameStop, and searched online at Amazon ( USA, Canada, and Japan) Toys-R-Us, Newegg, and Best Buy. I've also checked nowinstock.net

Nothing. Still can't find a Switch. I'm not willing to pay $400.00 on EBay either.

Any other ideas? Doesn't help that I'm in rural Wyoming 1.5 - 2.5 hours from any stores either.

After a month of checking around and trying to find a switch by itself - I finally gave up and went the Gamestop bundle route and got it within a week after ordering.

One of the things I hate is the bundles Gamestop forces you into. They did it with the PS4 and xb1 as well. They put stuff in there you probably don't even want just to get rid of it and get a high attach rate.

God that Gamestop bundle is horrific right now. I never thought of getting a bundle to get one now, but figured ok, if there was a bundle with say a Pro controller, Zelda, and then some crap game I didn't want like Arms so be it. But $462 for a Switch, Arms, some crap game Has-Been Heroes that has garbage reviews, a charging dock, screen cover, and a 64 GB microSD card? No way in hell I'm paying $462 when the only thing I want is the Switch and the microSD card.

When you add up everything, Gamestop usually charges more for the stuff bundled together than you could buy it separately anyway.

Tactics of a company breathing it's dying breaths.

Look at their current bundle

Even going by the prices Gamestop sells the individual items for there is no discount

Switch $299.99
Joycon Charging Dock $29.99
Arms $59.99
Has-Been Heroes $19.99
Zagg Screen protector $12.99 (horrible reviews on their site)
Sandisk 64 GB XC $39.99

Total $462.94 and they sell the bundle for $462.99

You can buy the same microSD card on Amazon for $27, so

That's not why they do it like that. They do it because 1) they know you can't find the console and 2) they want to show a high attach rate and get rid of the junk items in stock.

Otherwise they just tell you to check your local store all the time.

Looks like the Switch became massively available in the area today. Stopped by a Target at lunch today and they had 4 sitting in the cabinet. Also received 10 inStock email notifications at lunch for various Targets and Gamestops in the area. The biggest thing that hit me when I saw it was a lack of a reason to buy one. Besides owning another console, the lack of games is a deal breaker. Like the Wii U, this feels like something I would be at the end of life used along with the 5-10 games that are worth owning.

I know why they do it, but I am not sure why people are buying it. It's only got 1 game that anyone really seems to care about.

That's why I said this is the tactic of a company whose days are numbered.

Yeah I looked recently. When I ordered mine the Zelda kit was 399.00. It was the switch, Zelda, a charge and play kit. A little overpriced $10-20 but nothing you wouldn't use. The one I got, the neon joy con version, Mario Kart, a carry bag and some wheels, it was exactly the $400 worth off accessories and the only thing I didn't want was the wheels and I even changed my mind on those.

That was on 6/2 said it would ship on 6/16, but it shipped on 6/6. But the new package is so much more crappy.

I pre-ordered the new zelda bundle since I'd buy everything in it anyway, I'm not sure I really want the pro controller so I might sell that but I was going to buy BOTW anyways so I figured I'd get it all at once. I might go check some targets and stuff by me, if i can get the console by itself I might cancel my pre order and just get that and BoTW.

People keep saying that but they still post profits in the $50mil+ range all the time. They also are not alone in this. When I worked at Toys R US we did things like this too for the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube days until stock settled. I guess people buy it because they have no choice if they really want it now. Better than paying $400+ for the system alone off a ebay gouger.

I know they also did it with GameCube, Wii U GC controller adapter, and NES Classic Edition. They’ll do it to absolutely anything they know is in short supply. Nintendo and other major distributors should discourage that crap.

It benefits Nintendo too. They are profiting off of the games and some of the accessory sales as well.

Short supply is also partially Nintendo's fault.

Nintendo doesn't care because they already sold the console to Gamestop. Whatever Gamestop prices it at is up to them unless there is a minimum price agreement which being Nintendo I think there is. Anyhow I just don't like seeing it out of stock at the local stores but the website demands you spend $200 extra on junk you would not buy.

Sorry, GameStop's June Zelda bundle sold out already, so no link possible. Included Switch, Pro Controller, Zelda, and Zelda expansion pass (for $450 +tax +shipping), i.e. full retail price on every item, no discount. [And yes, I know this because I gave in and ordered it last week... just to play Zelda really]

I hadn't realized they were still so hard to source.

Guess I'm lucky a friend bought me one a few months ago.

We have no trouble getting them where I live. Our GameStop and EntertainMart have had them on the shelves for weeks.

Seems like it depends on the area you live in. Around here there's like 12 Gamestops, 6 Walmarts, 4 Targets, 4 BestBuys, and a Toys R US within a 15minute drive of my house so there are lots of places to check stock.

I think if you are hoping to snag one randomly, they are hard to find. If you are actively looking for one, then there are plenty around. I just set up alerting using istocknow.com and finally saw my first one in a store and now I'm flooded with alerts.

Jesus, you must live in a big city like Denver or Phoenix. Where I live there's only one Gamestop, one Wal-Mart (two if you count the one on the res, but we don't go out there), one Target, and one Best Buy. We had a Toys R Us, but that went out of business almost 20 years ago.

In the Richmond Metro Area, there are three places where there are 2 Gamestops within 1,000 feet of each other. There are 16 Gamestops within a 30 minute drive of my house. 11 Targets, 12 Walmarts but only 3 Best Buys. I wouldn't consider Richmond a huge city though.
