Still can't get a Switch

For the last 6 weeks I've called the closet Target, Walmart, GameStop, and searched online at Amazon ( USA, Canada, and Japan) Toys-R-Us, Newegg, and Best Buy. I've also checked nowinstock.net

Nothing. Still can't find a Switch. I'm not willing to pay $400.00 on EBay either.

Any other ideas? Doesn't help that I'm in rural Wyoming 1.5 - 2.5 hours from any stores either.

My BIL asked me to pick up a PS4 when they first came out a few years ago. I used a program that constantly checked Amazon and sounded an alarm and automatically added it to the cart when it was available. It worked well and I had one ordered within a couple of hours - have you tried something like that?

The rumors of Nintendo making them rare on purpose is more and more likely. I'm actually pretty confident that is the case.

It is unfortunate. You may get lucky though. Maybe if you become buddies with the Manager at your local Gamestop they will give you a heads up when it appears on the shipping manifest for the week. That's how I got mine. They knew they would get them ahead of time and they held it for me to come get after work.

I really don't know about Nintendo keeping them rare... From my understanding they are having a hard time sourcing the LCD screens which can pass quality control as well as dealing with issues on some with the heatsink/thermal paste/pad installations from trying to rush them out so fast.

Remember, Nintendo is also trying to gain third party software company interest in the system. Keeping the volume artificially low will not help their case in terms of showing market penetration.

What is really happening is that people want to play Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild due to how good a game it is. With so many people having panned the WiiU (and the fact that it is essentially a dead system now), anyone who wants to play is trying to buy a Switch (or using emulation on the PC). They also see the switch as being a decent handheld system (which it is, if only it had a longer battery life...)

Looks like Gamestop bundles are the way to go unless you want to stalk the local retailers. I've yet to see one in the wild. Probably not a bad thing since it would be an instant impulse buy.

Man we have Switches all over the place here... and the games too. I don't know anyone who owns one.

Dang.. I saw 3 in stock at TRU about a month ago while looking for NES classic. Just don't have enough time for another console, and my son didn't want one for his bday when I asked

Simply not true. Outside probable LCD and NAND shortages, you can't just ramp up production to fill demand at the snap of your fingers. I mean just in employment, you it means getting more lines and more people which means that once supply is met they are overproducing and over employ'd and have to start laying people off or see serious damage to their margin. The demand for the Wii was so high that they twice did major upgrades to production. Once like 3 years in the demand for the Wii wained and then later with the U they were screwed because they had production set sooo high and no sales, it almost killed them. Personally I'd rather they be pragmatic about this release.

As for availability now. I got mine in about 6 days with a Gamestop pre-order bundle. The Mario cart one seems like the best value within a couple of dollars of retail cost of all the stuff and I personally like the carrying case. The steering wheels makes joy cons a lot easier to use for split screen racing.

I just saw 2 at Target when I was there for some other stuff. Are these really that rare?

Can't find any around here in Ohio. Walmart, Target, Meijer, all have big empty holes where they should go. Target seems to have completely removed the console from their website. Gamestop had a "pre-order" on their website in the morning which was gone again by afternoon.

I've seen several. Got mine on launch day, and didn't see any for a while. Probably seen at least 10 in stock in various stores, though.

This is a great resource for finding when stores get them. Check it in the morning or night before, then go get in line before they open for your best shot at one. Some stores will hold them for you if you call and explain how far away you are traveling.

Looking at that map, they are all over the place...except Wyoming....ouch.

I feel bad when my Switch just sits in its dock all day for weeks on end. I played the crap out of Zelda, but waiting for ARMs and some more good games.

I played the Arms global test launch and 5 minutes of it was too much. I play MK8D sometimes but I have recently mainly been playing it when I'm on airplanes.

It won't help them, but better to keep people thinking when your true issue is crappy QC.

at least one of my local BB has had one in stock. Several places have the accessories I've heard some have had difficulty finding. I'll get one but more than happy to wait for specials over the holidays.

Last time I walked into Best Buy, they had 2. This was about 4 or 5 days after it was announced online that Best Buy would be getting shipments. I think maybe after Mario Kart 8 Deluxe launched. The boxes were a little scuffed up. I thought about buying one for a few minutes, but Breath of the Wild is the only game I care about at all, so I just moved on.

Guess you're now looking for a Switch...

In development. If they had nothing to show, it's likely 3 or 4 years away, if they don't end up canceling it first.

I'm still waiting for virtual console and all the previous Zelda games.

What's your point? Did you even see what I quoted?
