I guess MB isn't even giving out loaners.

Their stance is "We have no reason to suspect that there is any problem with any pf the airbags in our cars. Keep driving them and we'll get back to you."

The Ford/Lincoln offer is for real. I'm on their list at the dealership and will get a car whenever they get to my name. The cars here in Tallahassee are being obtained through Enterprise so they will be up to 18 months old (car awaiting the airbag repair is a 2012). My current car insurance covers the rental as well. I don't get a choice of cars, just have to take whatever comes up next when it's my turn. No mileage limits and taking it out of state is okay. The only downside is that you have to renew the contract with both the dealership and Enterprise every 30 days. Maybe that can be done over the phone. I don't know. Can't think of any other info they told me.
HOw is this possible? I dont get the 5 months rental.

This airbag recall is really turning out to be quite costly for Takata.

For someone, for sure. Just in Tallahassee, the one Ford dealer is looking at upwards of $300,000 in rental fees every month as long as this lasts.

Just an update. We signed the contract for the 4th month yesterday. The woman there said that 2 or 3 people with these long term rentals had had the airbags replaced in the last week or so. Maybe it actually is coming soon. If we keep it all month they will have spent around $5500 just on us.

For the record, the Outlander , although lacking some of the bells and whistles the Lincoln has, has performed well. We drove it to TN and it handled the mountains there with no problems (I can't say the same for the Jeep Grand Cherokee our daughter rented). Gas mileage has been about 30 mpg on average and it is comfortable for long trips.

As an aside - sometimes hanging on to outdated tech (we call it "hanging on to" while our son prefers "hoarding" ) can come in handy. This car has no cd player and we had books on cd to listen to for the trip. We dug out our old Sony personal cd player, car power cord, and a thingy (that's the technical name) that broadcasts the cd player sound over the car radio. Okay so it's an FM transmitter. That worked excellently. Also found our 2007 Garmin GPS https://imgur.com/cW28Z4z . Yup. It worked fine for what we needed (we don't have unlimited data on the phones and were afraid that using GPS on them would be too much.)

hmm, thought this was just about bags not working and just checked and mine is in the could become a claymore group. Guess I'll be making a call to the dealer about doing a rental as they didn't even mention recall status to me when I took it in for the yearly inspection this month.

Finally they repaired it and we returned the rental. Just took them 5 1/2 months. Total rental cost for them around $7200.

That's funny, I got an airbag recall notice for my 2012 Accord, waited 1 week then called expecting no parts available. Turns out they were booked for 3 weeks, made the appointment and I was out the door with the replacement installed on time and under budget.

Some bad news for some of you...

https://www.usatoday.com/story/mone...llion-vehicles-dangerous-air-bags/3137817002/

Honda is likely to recall around 1 million older vehicles in the U.S. and Canada because the Takata driver’s air bag inflators that were installed during previous recalls could be dangerous.

Documents posted Monday by Canadian safety regulators show that Honda is recalling many of its most popular models for a second time. The models are from as far back as 2001 and as recent as 2010.

Canadian documents say about 84,000 vehicles are involved. That number is usually over 10 times higher in the United States.

Why don't they just disable the airbags in these vehicles? Having no airbag beats getting shot in the chest with metal fragments and possibly getting killed by something that is supposed to protect you.

Oh, and I got a notice on my Mercedes that the passenger airbag has this recall but they don't have parts yet...
