The game was pretty good. It is short too, so you won't waste too much time on it. It wasn't some masterpiece of gaming by any means, but it is fun enough to finish in a weekend and enjoy the game.

I like that the game is short, since I only have a finite amount of time, and the game isn't that great. But it is still probably the best AAA game I've played in a few years (which isn't saying much, since I greatly prefer the good "Indy" games to AAA games. )

I just started playing it about a month ago and I'm very close to the end. Overall it's definitely a good game but the checkpoint save system just drives me crazy. I HATE HATE HATE checkpoint save systems! I find I can easily spend 30-45 minutes between checkpoints. Maybe it's because I like to poke around every nook and cranny, even though it's kind of pointless in this game.

Anyway, it's worth playing. Just don't expect to be able to quit whenever you want, without losing some progress.

That was one of my biggest gripes too. It's like modern PC gaming has now gone full circle and we've "re-upgraded" to 16-bit storage-less cartridge-based consoles all over again... Checkpoint-only PC gaming = "Welcome to the glories of 1990". LOL.

I haven't played any of the Bioshock series. I'm considering it, but I played a demo of I think it was the first one, and it just did not grab me. If I were to play just one now, which would be the best to start?

I also agree that checkpoint saves are a major aggravation on PC. Even a lot of games that have quick save only allow one save game, which is better, but still annoying. To me there is no excuse for a PC game to not allow save anywhere and have as many saves as you want.

Just play Infinite then. It's independent enough of the first one so you can jump right in.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I thought Infinite stunk.

Had a really cool setting, but the combat was pretty weak; a sub par, mostly linear shooter with nice visuals overall.

I'm with you, no idea what the critics were creaming about. The game was bleh...

ok, I see what you guys meant.
Its pretty, but I am definitely feeling railroaded. More like an interactive movie than a game.
I got sick of those back in the 90's.
But I'll probably finish it anyway.

It's just like every other Bioshock game. Mediocre gameplay, above average story. It's worth it if nothing else is taking up your time.

Question for the old people: Is it worth it to go back and play System Shock 2?

I don't consider myself old (yet), but I played SS2 for the first time in 2008 or 2009, unmodded even IIRC, so I think my answer is more relevant anyway.
I liked it better than Bioshock. Great atmosphere, great story, and the abscence of consolization and hand-holding is really refreshing these days. Reminded me of playing Deus Ex for the first time.
And now that it's officially available again and with the mods to make the graphics more bearable it should be even better. It's been on sale on steam and gog for $2.50, it's a no-brainer.

Definitely. Great plot. And it was designed when PC games were PC games. As showb1z said, there are now mods that play in 1080p widescreen, a better texture pack somewhere, etc. Uses the same "Dark Engine" as Thief 1 & 2.

I played it for a little bit and didn't like it. Got to where you rescue the girl out of her prison. Felt too cartoony to me. Might go back to it at some point.

I liked origional bioshock better and played it all the way through a couple times. Infinite held my interest for several hours but I did not bother to finish it. It's pretty but does not have any of the creepy retro vibe that the origional has.

I never finished the game.

The setting is beautiful and everything, but it got repetitious pretty quickly.

The setting, while beautiful, is actually part of the reason I couldn't get into the game. In Bioshock 1, the railroad progression kind of fit with the whole underwater bio-dome aspect. But the cloud city made me always feel like I should have more freedom. Unfortunately the game was rather unforgiving with exploration, making the experience a bit jarring at times.

On top of that the combat was incredibly dull. The guns and the powers were pretty lackluster. Enemies weren't cleverly designed/placed to make it engaging to try out fun combos or anything.

That said. If you already bought it and it's installed, why not try it? The game wasn't for me, but there's nothing to say that you won't enjoy it.

I liked Bioshock 1 & 2 fine, played Bioshock: Infinite to finish it, but after finishing it, I realized how much I loved it.

Good gameplay with an interesting story and it really gets interesting when it starts borrowing from Half-Life 2. It's on sale this weekend along with the original Bioshocks. The DLC is on sale individually, but the Season Pass is not. Debatign whether I should get the pass or not.

I played through it again recently.

It is...okay. Interesting story the first time through, but I felt that gameplay was kind of annoying. Its gameplay is the typical kill everything that moves, grab key, open door.

I would recommend just playing the game with a controller on easy, big screen. It is not a game that should be played with mouse/keyboard and high precision.

The story is better than the gameplay is what I'm getting at. The game world levels felt surprisingly cramped to me. They are discrete levels, and there are noticeable and frequent loading times. I would have been more impressed if it had been like World of Warcraft where you have a seamless world.

Many will disagree with me, but IMO - no. I've played the game and am not a fan. Same with respect to the first one.

The games are great, the reviews dont lie. Cant please everybody especially PC gamers where tastes tend to vary even more.
