Will I will be fine with my current 32-bit XP install?

You can use dual-core with regular Windows XP right?

Just got my tracking info... Product has shipped, and is scheduled for delivery on 10/16!

I'm a bit surprised, given how flaky the info on the site is, I wasn't really expecting to get it...

Now the question is, do I keep it, or fleabay it for profit? and ride it out with my single core 3700+ (1mb l2) till I can pick up a c2d combo for a song?

Good Luck with that. Somebody's already selling them for $117.50.

Looks like current Ebay BIN prices for the 4800+ 939 chips is 200 shipped for the OEM, 220-235 shipped for the Retail. Thats excluding the clueless people that have theirs listed way higher than everyone else, of course.

AM2, of course.

Yep, you be right. Looks like the last two 939s went for 265.00 and 213.00...and those were used. This otta be kinda interesting to see what this new batch goes for.
Which one of you guys is gonna be the first to list?

Ugh... to upgrade or not to. Still running a P4 3.0 with 2 gigs of ram and a x1950pro. Would obviously need to get a new motherboard =/

If your upgrade requires a new mobo--essentially building a new rig...you wouldn't want to buy an outdated Socket 939 motherboard.

Hmm I think you'd be far better off just saving up for a core 2 rig. This would be just a bit more economical for those who are still on s939.

Save up the extra $50 to get a low-end C2D+mobo and overclock. You might be able to re-use your RAM on your new C2D mobo too, since S939 uses DDR.

Hm.. didn't even think of that. good idea. Any suggestions for a good 775 mobo? I see at Newegg they only have 2 boards.. one is a VIA and the other an SIS chipset... bleh. Any other places have good mobos with good chipsets that take DDR (1)?

edit Newegg's advanced search does not always work right- found one board that had an Intel chipset: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813131037 Of course I don't see that it will take core2duos or anything like that.. are there Boards out there that take core2duos and DDR?

My order shipped on Friday.

Now just two questions remain...

How to remove my old 3500+ chip? Last time I had to remove the CPU it took an ungodly amount of force to get the retention clips to unlock. I don't want to put that much force on the mobo with it in the case and I certainly don't want to have to take the whole thing apart again.

What do to with my extra 3500+ CPU?

A64 retention clips are much better than the old socket A ones. Unhook the latch and pry it back. Voila, pull the heatsink off.

Give it to me!

I think you'd be better off selling your 2 gigs of DDR and using that money to buy 2 gigs of DDR2. I doubt you'd be out any money considering the prices of DDR2 memory these days, or you might even come out ahead after you got back some rebates. With DDR2, you'd have a MUCH larger selection of motherboards to choose from.

My two cents ~ do not change motherboard and do not go to the core2duo/ddr solution. Reason? Infinity minus one troubles, including, a. having to reinstall Window to account for the changed motherboard chipset drivers, b. it will create a dominoe effect wher you may need to swap out any IDE devices for SATA, c. the best bang for any bucks is the purchase of a new and better video card, not the cpu/memory. You will always see dramatic improvements by upgrading to a better amd cpu, and then upgrading your video card. Changing to a new motherboard/cpu/ram, will not show any difference that is worth the trouble and headaches. That's total opinion but I want to save you money and time and get you to happiness and actual improvements.

Is this deal still alive? Has anyone purchased and received the OEM X2 4800 for $119?
Since this is the best my Socket 939 mobo could ever have I think this might be a pretty attractive option for a good price...
