Actually stock is a problem only in USA because of the relatively lower pricing. The rest of the countries pay 20-50% more but stock is never an issue.

There was stock at newegg this morning. I even tested the availability by clicking add to cart. I had no issues up to that point (I didn't buy it though). You missed out! I really wanted to upgrade, but honestly now that the post-release hype has subsided, I am definitely at least going to wait on custom AIB cards. I'd like to see prices hit the $400 mark, which could take until the end of summer or sometime in the fall. I may end up waiting until big Kepler hits and going for whatever big K's second tier card will end up being.

yeah it goes in and out of stock quite a bit. I could have easily bought one by now if I really wanted to.

Yeah, you have to check 3 or 4 times a day if you want one. They seem to be in stock nearly every day, but not for long.

Central computers (a local chain who seems to be trying to get some internet presence) sent me an ad today saying they had EVGA GTX680s in stock. Seems like they're around, but you have to pay attention.

Didn't see any 680s for 1200 on Amazon after search.
But here you go.

530 bucks. In stock. Tiger Direct. This is the first place I looked after newegg.

In stock yet ships in one to three weeks? No, if it's in stock it should ship the same day. This is why I refuse to do business with these people. Also MSRP is $499. The supply on these cards is tighter than Fermi two years ago. Most places that post them are OOS in an hour or less according to nowinstock.net.

As long as these supplies remain tight expect prices to stay well above MSRP. Competing cards from AMD are also still above MSRP. That seems to be the new way to keep prices high. If the card had an MSRP of 399 it would not matter. (and fools will still pay those prices!) Look at ebay for example! Ridiculous!

What is ridiculous is to think this is the "new way to keep prices high". What good does that do? Companies want to MOVE product. Volume is key. They don't want stock sitting on shelves due to gouged pricing. Supply is tight, no doubt. TSMC looks like it's going to lose a bunch of it's business after these last two nodes.

If people refused to pay said ridiculous pricing stock would increase and prices would fall. Very simple. But they will buy them quickly at ridiculous prices.

This seems to happen with practically every new release. The exception was the 5870 back in fall 2009. Stock was plentiful everywhere and prices were also reasonable. Look at what happened with the 5970 when the bitcoin craze began.

Does AMD or Nvidia have any other options? I wish Nvidia would work out a deal to use Intel fabs... drool

The major etailers aren't charging ridiculous prices. You're being confused by third party sellers through amazon. Just ignore those like they don't exist. When amazon gets them in stock, they're MSRP (or at most $10 or so over).

Global Foundries. It's not a good option, though... TSMC's issues would probably have to be waaay worse before either company would consider it. And then it would still take years.

Just ordered my second one for SLI (had to get the "superclocked" one) from amazon. They do "temporarily out of stock" orders from time to time. When I ordered my first one, it was in that state and I got it the next day.
