I just burned up my old D-Link router after using the wrong power adapter...dought!

So I went to Fry's (Phoenix) to find a cheap replacement, and stumbled upon on good deal for a 4 port Netgear w/ wirelees "b" for $39.99 after a $20 mail in rebate. I went to Best Buy and the had the same wireless router for $79.99, but they were offering two $20 rebates. So...

Should anyone be spending (wasting?) money on 802.11b technology while the 802.11g is much faster & dropping prices? I just bought Netgear router WGR614 (79.99) & Notebook card WG511 (59.99) after $50 & $20 rebates. I have seen the other brands like SMC even cheaper for the G technology. Just my 2 cents...

I was thinking G also, but for internet sharing and light file sharing B is more than fast enough. If I want to hook up a couple of computers for LAN gaming, I bust out my box of Cat5 cable and use it as a hard switch.

Has anyone had bad experiences LAN gaming with B?
How does B perform with an XBOX?

And for $20, I won't mind upgrading later, or ading the B switch as part of my system... if that is possible?

if you dont want to hassle with pricematch...office depot has the router for 80 dollars with forty dollars worth of rebates..it says thirty when u go to the site but when u click on the rebate links its actually two 20 dollar rebates...add a 15 off coupon and it comes out to 25 dollars plus tax..

I got this router when it was $25 at Amazon. (My rebates havent come though, is there a way I can contact them about this?) Anyways, even at $45 it is well worth it. It is very stable, dosent drop the connections like my old Linksys BEFSR41 and even though people can complain I can stream music, talk on MSN and poke through a local network computer just fine with my "puny" 11Mbps.

I give it two-thumbs up!

I was able to do this deal a couple of months ago (PM to Fry's). I have received one of the $20 rebates, and the other is "being processed". Overall, it has been a good unit so far.
