The $699 price is from BestBuy.com after $100 rebate ($799 before $100 rebate). Unfortunately "You snooze, you lose" BestBuy.com no longer carries this item, so this deal is DEAD.

Yeah that's usually a good idea, it just takes a few minutes and you could save HUNDREDS of $. I won't reveal how many times I check AT Hot Deals per day but I'd recommend checking it at least twice a day. Once in the morning and afternoon, you never know when you'll find the right product at the right price.

Remember retail is for suckers.

This deal might still be alive. Amazon has it for 799 before a 100 MIR but its out of stock know. If you still want the deal you should check back in a day or so and see if they get more it stock.

BB just emailed me this morning and said my order was in progess!! Called the customer service lady and she said that in all probability this means that my order will be fufilled. Looks like BB is getting on their arse and getting more stock. You guys might want to call CS and see if they will fufil new orders, since they are getting more stock.

This is great because I tried to PM with staples yesterday. Spoke with a manager in San Diego and he basically told me that he can't PM items that are "out of stock" at best buy. Oh well.

Oh yeah Amazon still has the 1005-s157 last nite at about 11pm central time. That was when I just got back from compusa with the same thing for
900 after rebate. So I immediate ordered one from amazon for 699 after rebate, free shipping no tax so I come up with it 200 dollars cheaper then
compusa. What a deal. Now I got to return the unopened s157 from compusa back.... I hope they take it back and dont charge me anything.

now we got to get ourself some networking devices.... anyone with anytake?

Alright, if anyone's interested in the S177 that was mentioned in this thread, the TV-Out DOES WORK! It's not S-Video, but rather a normal yellow AV plug (My term) It's amazing that Best Buy did not advertise this on its webpage, as I almost didn't buy it due to it's absence. Well, even if it was $200 more, I'm thrilled with my $899 purchase, simply because it has a working NIC/TV-Out/20 Gigs/LiIon Battery.

just a note: You can get it for $799 from circuit city if you go through Amazon.com and look at your right, it says CC price is $999, they have $200 MIRs.

Argh!! I just check amazon.com about 1 hr ago and they still had it in stock (1PM EST), was going to have Staples PM it, but turned out staples only had the 1000-S157, not the 1005-S157 that had the $100 MIR... As soon as I found I made that mistake (by calling local staples to see who has it), got back on-line and OOS on Amazon! Shoulda jump on this deal...

Probably, but a word of advice I hope you will heed DO NOT OPEN THE PACKAGE keep it sealed then it will be a still brand new, factory sealed, resellable retail product otherwise you may have to pay some BS restocking fee. >>



If I plan to return it I won't open it, but a restocking fee could negate the whole purpose of returning it.

Something else I noticed...

According to the Toshiba specs on the S157, it's a 256K cache/133 FSB model... Wouldn't that make it a Tualatin based Celeron? So basically it'd be a .13 micron Coppermine P3 @ 1066 Mhz... Whereas the other would be a 128 KB/100 MHz Celermine...

Personally I'd rather have the equivalent of a Coppermine P3 under the Celeron name than a 1.1 GHz Celermine.

Tualatin Celeron's run at 100mhz fsb i thought

Tualatins are 133mhz bus speed and 0.13 micron with 256KB L2 cache. The S157 is a 1.06 Tualatin Processor. The 1.1 Celeron running in the S177 is an older design built on a 0.18 micron die with only a 128KB L2 cache and a 100mhz bus speed.

I bought the S157 and am very satisfied with it. The only draw back I can think of is the shorter run time of the Nickle Metal Hydride Battery.

Two things I would like to mention.
PrOsHoCk mentioned that the Display was not as bright as he would like it to be. If you go to "Toshiba Power Management" in Control Panel, and change your power scheme from the default "Normal" to "High Power" you will see one of the best TFT displays ever. Although I am sure it will reduce battery run time.

Secondly go to this Link and download the new Windows XP graphics driver - version PV10.2.4.

You will then have 32MB of Video Ram just like me!

how is the casing on this laptop? i've had a dell and the case was horrible...

also if you put the laptop on your lap, is it hot? some of the other toshiba models used pentium III non mobile so the underside was really hot...

OMG You stayed up till 4.00 am just to see whether the lappy is in stock or not. That shows this deal is freaking hot.!!!!

While I am at it,

I will post an update of what I also bought for my lappy, a 4X2.0 usb pcmcia card from memoryonly.com
for only $59.00 shipped, I have seen prices over 100 bucks for just 2X2.0 usb pcmcia. So hopefully the thing is good. Anyone with any comment on it?
If it is a good deal then I am sure you guys would buy it too.
