Still warm toshiba laptop 1005-s157 deal for $699 ...

This laptop doesn't come with PS/2 ports for mouse or keyboard, so there is no way i can connect an external PS/2 keyboard or PS/2 mouse.
What will happen if I connect an external USB mouse or USB keyboard? Will it work?

it should work as long as windows detects it and loads the appropriate drivers.

Ditto here on the USB mouse. Actually, I've used it with both (not at same time ) an Inland optical USB mouse and a Unimouse that I picked up awhile ago. They both were recognized and worked as soon as I plugged them in. I had to download a newer driver for the Inland to get XP to recognize/use all 5 buttons though.

I haven't tried a keyboard yet. I'm looking for a cheap, USB "mini" keyboard that I can fit into my laptop bag, but haven't found one yet.

P.S. Has anyone looked at any of the "free" software titles that you can get from Toshiba with this laptop? Are any of them worth the S&H cost? The only one that seemed even potentially useful was Laplink, but I'm not sure what functionality that would give me that I don't already have via my inhouse network. Any comments?

So, for those who grabbed this, you can likely pick up a decent battery for it. If I was keeping mine I'd probably upgrade the battery, but since I'm selling mine without even opening the box (yes, it hurts ) I have no need for it. Hopefully it'll help some of you out.

Does the 1005 have a removable battery?
Can you really just replace a NiMH with a LiIon?
I would think the charging hardware would be somewhat different for the two types.

Yeah...they will pricematch online retailers. I just brought in the printout of the amazon page showing it was instock and ready for shipment. I am fairly sure they will not do it with a printout that says that it is not available. I wish I had a screen print saved of when it was in stock to help you people out but I forgot to save it. Please, if someone has one, post it somewhere online or email,PM me and I will host it somewhere, as I want to pick up one of these for a friend. Thanks.

Nikon, I have the same status as well. Can anyone tell us how long it took before they got a delivery date on their order from Amazon.

Status is still unknown to me........I placed order on Friday the Fifteen.

Called Ama and they gave me the "shudder" on the phone.

I ordered mine on Amazon about 11:30pm Sunday and just called them. The recording says everything normal expected delivery is between March 27 and April 3rd.... as long as I can mail my rebate by May 16th everything will be fine.

Just fyi, you can always use usb mice and keyboards at the same time. Long story short, I had 20 intellimice and 5 natural keyboards on 1 machine, they all worked at the same time.

Bestbuy is cancelling the laptop orders - just got my cancellation notice - anyone else? I ordered when it showed 'in stock' about a week ago.

hmm. If you read my posts in this thread, my order was stopped by bestbuy, then put back on track. But after a few days they still hadn't shipped it. I called 1-888-BESTBUY about five times and b!tched to customer service repeatedly. Needless to say, I got my shipping confirmation yesterday. For those who aren't having luck with bestbuy, talk to a CS agent named Ann, she's weak and will succumb easily if you start yelling..
