Stock AMD heatpipe heatsink

Does this newer amd heatpipe heatsink w/ 80mm fan come with the 4200+ X2? I want to know because, I might get this cpu over the 3800+ in reason of this better heatsink. I don't want to buy a 3800 and use anothe heatsink since it will void the warrenty.

IMO, the price for the 4200+ over the 3800+ x2 is nor worth it. your paying like $50 more for a better STOCK hsf, when that money can be used for something else. if your scared about the warrenty, you can find the stock heatpipe hsf on ebay.

well the new heatpipe stock heatsink is basically on par to aftermarket heatsinks, according to ncix.com it will cost about $60 more for the 4200 then the 3800 (canadian).

It only comes with X2 4600/4800 and some high end Opterons right now. That could change however. It just depends on how generous AMD want to be.

I'm guessing that all the new AM2 CPU's will come with this HSF.

It comes with the Opteron 165, and I wouldn't consider that one of the high end Opterons..

i bought one from the for sale forum here and love it, my temps run about 82 degrees fahrenheit with room temp of 69 degrees fahrenheit. very good heatsink fan.

There are several types with different number of pipes and heat sink and fan sizes. Make sure you get the one you want.

The one that is now selling on ebay has a 70mm fan and only 2 heatpipes. This is a review of that one.

This is the one that comes with 4 pipes and an 80mm fan. This one is not available on ebay now.

There's a guy....(had the link, can't find it now) that sells them almost weekly (the 4 pipe units)....keep an eye out and if I find the link, I'll post it. Bought one there 2 weeks ago!

Lately it has been hard to find a good price this hsf,only 3 weeks ago the average was $15 including shipping now the best i can find is $25.For that price you can start looking at the Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 64.

I didn't realize it came with the 4400+. Must be a recent upgrade. Heck maybe AMD is now shpping them will new dual cores.

And for the Hi end Opterons, to me that means dual cores and I believe the 150 and above.

Its a great heatsink. All dual-cores come with it, with the exception of the X2 3800(That one still has the normal crappy aluminum heatsink).

I sold my xp-90 for this stock copper heatpipe heatsink and it cools identical lol. Its also much quieter than my xp-90 fan was. Of course I got it for free also, which makes it even better.

^are you sure about that? I'm hearing things how it doesnt come with the 3800 an the 4200 (see above ). What cpu do u have?

I got the 4200 and it did not come with the Heat Sink that has the pipes, but a standard looking block with a fan.

My 4200 seemed to be running hotter than others, so I looked around in some forums and ended up buying the Freezer 64 Pro. But it didn't really help much .. maybe a few degrees.

I have come to realize my problem is with my case. It has only 3 80mm fans. When I pulled the side off my cpu runs about like everyone elses mid to low 30's no OC. A bit higher when OC to 2600.00MHZ

Also runnng 6800 GS OC to 510.00 and 1.15

IMO you shouldn't sweat the HSF, but the case. I'm thinking one that has at least two 120mm fans. The reviews on this site suggest a nice Thermaltake or maybe the Li.

X2 3800+ doesn't come with it (I know mine didn't)

I bought one from ebay and tried it, didn't like it and sold it the next day at a loss
Just don't expect miracle if you really want to try one.

I had to lap the heatsink. It was not flat. I definitely see an improvement in load temperatures. And this is the one with the 70mm fan that I have got.

Might as well spend that extra $50 on a speed bin instead of giving it to a HSF manufacturer.
The AMD four pipe works well in my experience.

I got a 4200 and it came with a heatpipe HF. I've got an XP-90, so I didn't use the retail one, but it was a good size and weight heatsink.
