I'm really curious to see how the reviews come in for this board. I'm quite happy with my K7S5A, and you can't beat the price!

Newegg even managed to get these in stock prior to their ETA date. GREAT VENDOR if you guys haven't bought from them before.

Me wants reviews!

Defently gonna consider buying it if it is faster than the KT266A boards.

Totally strange that the board was available to end-users before a single review came out. Oh well, I jumped at the chance and if it isn't as fast as my KT266A I'll sell it in my next discount system build

I saw a review somewhere - it's supposed to fix the memory problem of k7s5a, not as good as expected, not faster than 266A, but it's really worth for its price.

Ahh. That's a pretty nice price. Looks like it doesn't support both pc133 and DDR ram like the k7s5a did. It does have support for the new DDR 333 ram though.

I've built a couple of different ECS systems and they Rock. They are reliable and stable. the k7s5a is also an awesome performer. I wouldn't trade them out for my abit kt7aRaids yet but that is just an emotional attachment. This company seems to make products that are Solid.

Not sure about this but I think, at least initially, the K7S6A will not come with on-board LAN like the K7S5A does. I read somewhere eventually
a version w/ LAN will be made available.

I would wait for a while before buying. See some reviews and let them get some of the bugs out. Especially since all the history of early problems with the KS75A.

If you don't want to go with the SiS745 chipset, you can get the ECS VIA KT266A solution (Model K7VTA3 Version 2.0) at NewEgg for only $1 more ($71). This is the cheapest KT266A MB I've seen yet.

always a good idea and wait a while to see what problems surface...

By the way, i noticed the K7S5A is no longer listed on newegg... discontinued?

If you do video/audio editing and/or just want to avoid the VIA 4-in-1 drivers and .chipset problems, I'd give the SIS735/745 boards serious consideration. They're not THAT much behind the KT266A boards in benchmarks and are rock solid and great values.

Good price! How come the K7S5A isn't there anymore?

Did the K7S5A ever actually support (i.e., run stable at ) FSBs higher than 133MHz?

hey, dajo, if you don't mind me saying.. you're a pretty good lookin' guy

I seem to recall an unofficial overclockers BIOS for the k7s5a a few of months back or so which allowed for more overclocking options, and it may
have allowed going above 133mhz.

For those intent on overclocking, you can still do so if you are willing to use the pencil lead trick on the CPU.

Anyone know for sure if it's possible to change the multiplier on a CPU with this board? I've got a spare Duron lying around and I'd like to pair it with a cheap DDR board and run it at a 266mhz FSB without overclocking the chip too much.

i was able to get my duron 700 running at 900+mhz on it.. anything too much about 900mhz would produce instability though.
make sure you have good HSF if you want to try this.

Good price! How come the K7S5A isn't there anymore?

Its there, just put k7s5a in the search box and it'll come up. Except that its still out of stock and the ETA is 1/21.

I'm a little confused - the link lists *both* mobos:

ETA: Week of January 21st ECS K7S5A SiS® 735 SOCKET A MOTHERBOARD

ECS SiS745 Chipset ATX Motherboard Model K7S6A Socket A for AMD Athlon/Duron (K7) processors

Note that the 1/21/ avail date is for the k7s5a, and that at the time of this post that both mobos were in stock, though an ETA of 1/21 and it also listing as in stock seems contradictory ...

I absolutely love my K7S5A. I got one of the first boards out. I have an athlon 1.4 and o/c'ed it through software (CPU cool) up to the mid 140 mhzs with no problems, even with the stock HSF. I normally run at 139 MHZ with the memory timings maxed with no problems ever in use or with various memory testers. I thrash it pretty hard too, always capturing and encoding video and audio, running multi monitors, etc. It is a great board and if this next one is as stable, I would highly recommend it!!!

p.s. Just get a good power supply. The wattage doesn't need to be astronomical, I run 300W only, but make sure it is quality clean power. I think thats where most of these horror stories about this board have resulted from.
