Sure, I do sometimes. I have OC profiles in my BIOS. They are all tested and stable for at least 4 hours, but when I definitely don't need the extra horsepower (e.g. when I don't plan on intense gaming or programming but rather just writing documents, surfing) I run my CPU at auto voltages and speed stepping with turbo mode disabled.

That way I can turn down my fans to 50% and suddenly have a silent-PC still running cool enough due to low volts and clocks (32-40C @ minor load).

Running my q6600 (previously at 3.34 when was in main) in media centre and X3 720 in gaming comp at stock.

Normally I only overlock my main computer cause its the one I do all my work and video encoding on. When I upgrade, the older cpus either they go into more single function purposes or I sell/upgrade family's comps with them.

I'm running my entire system at stock . Basically have a QX6850, P5Q vanilla, 4GB of Mushkin 996587, a GTX 285 and an Asus Xonar D2. Nothing is OCed one bit whatsoever.

My little brother's computer is running stock freq, but undervolted to save electricity. I don't even leave my own computer at 2.8GHz. I typically leave it on stock freq and undervolted, unless I want to play a game that would even benefit from a faster cpu speed.

My LAN party rig's CPU is at stock speeds. E7200 on an Intel G33 Media Series board, so I couldn't overclock even if I wanted to. I have my GTX 285 running at 729MHz core with linked shaders, so I'm good for most games.

That's how I run my server. E5200 @1.2GHz 0.8v. Probably still way overpowered for what I need. Was running some years-old socket 478 setup that was fine... until caps bulged and leaked.

I never run my CPU at stock. I'm either overclocked exactly stated in sig or i'm underclocked to 1.63/1.39ghz @ 0.9V.

No reason to be stock these days.

The machine I'm on right now stays at stock. It's an AMD64 3800+ single-core, on an NV6150 939 mobo, 250GB HD, and DVD burner. The reason is because it only has a 200W PSU, and it's a custom size for my micro-atx case, so I don't want to burn it out by overclocking the CPU.

All my other rigs are OCed.

i7 920 at stock - it's simply too damn hot in a Silverstone lc17 (great htpc case, but a bit crammed when you fit two hd 4850's).

Considering how well CPUs overclock these days, it's hard to pass up free performance. But it really depends on what you plan to do with your system. I'm looking into building a HTPC/server rig and plan to keep the A64 X2 5050e at stock for obvious reasons.

Back to overclocking... everyone has their reasons. Mine was stated in the last paragraph. But I also demand that my systems are QUIET. So I find a balance between noise, performance and heat. Hence why I'm not pushing my Q9550 (E0) to 4.0 GHz that many others are running. At 3.4 GHz, I'm still able to run the CPU voltage at stock while keeping the NB, SB and RAM voltages at the bare minimum.

I had OCed my QX6850, but now that I have my i7 at 4.1GHz, I'm leaving it at stock because that beast is a power hog.
