I have also done silly things like lapping the cores and heatspreaders. I don't recommend for anyone to do it though.

I used to do the same thing. Nothing bad or stupid about it. It simply was the most effective way to clean the old ceramique substrates.

I use a product called Cooling Flow which is just as effective as AS3 but easier to apply (not that AS3 requires a brain surgeon to apply it). I've heard that it was developed by a university professor who loves overclocking.

Actually, the original purpose was different. He had bad hemorrhoids as well as constipation, thus the name.

LMAO....took me couple seconds to put it together (never experienced either...well....maybe one of 'em) but it's a good one!

hey again dapu.. well. most ppl probably don't bother researching your posts. It's not like you're are some kinda celebrity. And as for the rest of the stuff you said.. pure, destilled nonsense. But I spose it's all good since you seem to be happy about your great theories.

I thought Shin-Etsu was a PITA to apply compared to AS3. I also had Shin-Etsu stick a P4 IHS to the HS so bad that it pulled the processor right out of the socket without releasing the lever. :Q

I had this happen on a client's system, with just the stock pad on the hsf. It ended up bending several pins that took me hours to get straight again. Then Asus refused to provide any support, even with their vaunted "3 year warranty" when this board was less than a year old.

I got a guarantee for them - I guarantee that my company will never sell another Asus product ever again!

The time has come to leave the silver based crap behind and move on people BTW, the CoolerMaster and Shin-etsu only requires a lint free cloth to remove , haven't used Ceramique yet so I won't comment further on it.

*Disclaimer*: I'm not really angry or ranting but it seems those are the posts everyone reads.....the ones with drama in 'em

***I intentionally presented this thread in a very caustic manner, I eluded to this in the first post and explained my reasons for it further on. I do not care if you agree, disagree, or are impartial, the intent was to get it high exposure for those who could benefit from hearing of a compound besides ASIII I have received several PM's already from peopl asking questions about Shin-etsu and Ceramique hence the purpose this is here for helping those who need it! is being served

skimmed through the posts, shinetsu is the best, look at reviews that compare both. but prob is its hard to find. i couldn't find shin-etsu on excaliber's site. we should write newegg to start stocking up on these.

> Given that this thread is very uncharateristic for me I incorrectly presumed most would percieve my disingenuousness.

I thought possibly someone had hacked your ID.

Then I thought somebody at [ H ] had ticked you off.

Then I thought maybe you were having those rectal attacks and ran out of Cooling Flow.

That [ H ] comment was uncalled for though, there's no way I could hope to insult you on the same level as that! You've truly administered the coup de grace

You need to go read the instruction beatle .

Someone always gets me on that.

I also thought we'd lost DAPUNISHER for a while Good to see you're back.

I'd probably give some of the other compounds a try if I got them for free. I can't see myself buying more compound when this 2 year old AS2 is cooking along just fine. One nice thing about AS is that it has excellent instructions with PICTURES! These pictures give you an idea as to how much stuff you should put on. Paraphrasing: "use a blob the size of half a grain of uncooked rice." Use less than you think you need. If you really can't stretch it out across the core, use a tiny bit more. The finger in the plastic bag works well (for applying compound) as does the credit card/library card.

The secret society of Arctic Silver is displeased with your displeasure in AS peddling. Lock your doors and windows.
