I got one of those telezapper type units. Not a Telezapper, but a different unit that does 3 things: 1) plays the "this line is disconnected" tone that defeats some auto-caller soliciters; 2) plays a recorded message to the effect that "we don't accept any unsolicited calls, please take us off your list, it is now a Federal offense to complete this call; then 3) asks the caller to press "5" to continue if they are not a soliciter. Got this at Target at clearance for $12.50 (marked down from $50).
Since putting that unit on the line, I have not received a SINGLE telemarker call. Previously, we got several a day.

Kwad, I bought that same machine for $12.49 I have a question though...how many phones do you have? Have you found a way to get around buying the "ring extenders"? Right now, I have it setup so it rings through once for callerID, but after that, only the main phone rings if the person presses 5. In order to make the rest of the phones ring, I have to purchase a "ring extender" for each phone.
Here my original post from FW:
I bought something called the "Screen Machine" at Target for $12.49 @ 75% off clearance. Whenever someone calls my home phone, a pre-recorded message plays: "If you are a telemarketer or a fundraiser, please leave your name, your home telephone number, and the time that you eat dinner and we will be happy to return your call during that time. Friends, family and invited business callers, please press 5 now on your telephone to speak with us."
