My $.02 of info.

On a local news channel, there was a guy MAKING MONEY from telemarketers. He'd ask them to be removed from their list and to stop calling...if they called again, he would fine them $500-which is LEGAL. He'd have to get their name/business and other info.

One of the researchers working for Brian Livingstone (he has a weekly article at Infoworld.com and in the print version of the mag) has been doing the same to spammers, since it's against the law in CA.

question: if you have multiple adults (i.e. parents, spouses) on the same number (i.e. home), do each of them have to register separately? or having me register and just putting in the one phone number is enough?

Thanks. I can't stand desperate business people that think that telemarketing is a good thing for their business. It is the joke of the nation but they still spend money on it.

Now the stoopid consumers that have felt prey to their calls will be getting a lot more calls and will end up getting fedup themselves. And the little money the companies make will disappear, and the telemarketers will disappear and we will live happy thereafter.

thank you for the linkage. this is great! i've been waiting for this for a long time.

i've gotten more active about putting an end to this crap recently. here's what i did:

- i used the form letters at junkbusters to stop various junk mail and credit card offers
- i collected all catalogs that we didn't want and called them up and told them to put us on the do-not-contact list
- i got a phone with caller id and either ignore 'out of area' calls or pick up, say "put this number on your do-not-call list" and hang up
- i added a message to the voice mail for telemarketers to put this number on their do-not-call list

while i just started doing all this, i'm already beginning to see a drastic reduction of junk mail and phone calls. it's nice to know that there are things you can do about it.

I came across this site today. Looks like a hot deal to me. Register in CA to get on the federal do not call list. Starts in october so this is a preregistration.

Texas has had a do not call list for close to a year. It doesn't stop all of them, but
when you couple it with a Telezapper, it sure drops it close to zero. And when you
ask why they are calling when you are on the do not call state list, they apologize
and hang up immediately.
