OK guys I'm building a storage server to hold all my junk. Here is what I've bought/assembled so far:
Chenbro RM314 chassis w/SATA backplane
Tyan Tiger i7320 (S5350)
Xeon 3.0Ghz (Irwindale)
2GB Corsair DDR333 (ECC)
Rocketraid 8-port PCI-X SATA adapter
Zippy 510 watt PSU
I am planning on using 8 300 gig SATA disks setup in RAID 5 on the Rocketraid controller for the main storage space.
My question is, can I run the OS off that or is it better to use a smaller single disk dedicated to the OS???
I also realize that these components are overkill for just file storage, but eventually I want to be able to host games or run an FTP.
Thanks in advance for your input.
