Store bought computer noise, related to mine

Store bought computers are quiet, the one I built is not. It's roaring, store bought ones have nice hums, mine has the sound of a four-cycle engine. I'm building a new one, and I can keep it around 30 decibels, is this around the noise level of store bought ones? Around what db range are most store-bought comps?

Buy quiet fans. Problem solved.

The loudest fan in my case is 32dba (on the cpu heatsink) and thats loud enough.

for a quiet pc, get:
a bunch of panaflos
seagate baracudda IV
a case with really good ventilation or many fan holes
Antec or Zalman PSU
Either a SLK-800 for AMD
or a Swiftech MCX4000/Alpha 8942/AX-478 for intel and put a panaflo on it

or if you are really worried about heat, you can also put a 80 to 120 mm fan adaptor and put a low speed rpm fan on it

It could just be bad bearings in a fan, or maybe a wire against one. I had a temp job building systems and we encountered both of these problems. Sometimes it's horribly unbalanced, or it can also be inadequate lubrication. I just put in a fan in my main PC that was a few months old - the fan made a weird thrumming groan. I took the label off, put in some household oil (that's what the bottle says), taped back over it, and the fan is quiet now.

I got Vantec Stealths for all my case fans.. the loudest thing in my computer is probably the power supply.. Enermax something or other.. the one that isn't a Whisper..

Want a quiet pc? Get this case Palo Alto PA700 (micronpc uses the exact same chassis). 1 92mm exhaust, 1 92mm intake. buy a large heatsink (alpha 8045T or swiftech) and don't use the fan (at your own risk). The reason being is the exhaust 92mm locate directly behind the cpu and help sucking air from the heatsink anyway. If you oc, it is not a good case.

The chassis covers are made out of plastic (help reduce noise tremendously). I turn on at night I hardly hear any noise.
