SPOILER, DONT READ HERE IF YOU ARE READING THE BOOK

what they are referring to is called the "Red Wedding" where one of the main characters in the book, who is like 19 and a badass general, pretty much the only actual "good" person in the series besides his "bastard" halfbrother, is ambushed and killed at his own wedding celebration by his allies.

They get mad cause he marries some farm girl who he slept with instead of their daughter and after breaking bread and giving him shelter (big deal in the mythology) they murder everyone. Chop off the main dudes head and then his wolfs and stitch the wolfs head to his neck and vice versa. They also kill his mother and a bunch of awesome characters.

However, as another poster alluded to. The people who killed everyone, the Freys, will get theirs, mostly due to magic coming back to the world and what they did was an offense to the gods, and certain people coming back from the dead to get some vengeance.

personally I'm interested in WTF is going on with Ayra, Bran, and Jon Snow. Pisses me off that he broke it into two books and then forgot he was a writer.

either that or he has written himself into a corner and cant figure out how to get out of it.

His "not a blog" is a joke. Guess what a-hole, instead of running off to Finland or Norway or wherever you just were, why don't you try actually working for a month or two?

I don't know how his publisher/editor puts up with all his crap.

Because his work makes them money.

Guess what a-hole, why don't we just chain him to a desk and point a gun to his head until he finishes the book. It is his life and that "world" is his baby. He does what he wants to it and works on it when he wants to.

I think the reason so many people are pissed off is that he promises to work on the book but 'something' always comes up, like his football team losing and he is too depressed to write or.....or he doesnt like what he has written so he is going to have to start the whole thing over again...or he promises he will be finished by so and so date and then says whoops sorry i flew off to xx place and ill promise ill work on it soon im serious this time im gonna do it!

i mean come on he has pushed the release date back for years now...he should at least just let everyone know not to expect anything soon or ever

AFAIK there's to be six books, I might start reading the first again... for the third time

Supposedly 7.

Game of Thrones
Clash of Kings
Storm of Swords
A Feast for Crows

A Dance With Dragons (if it ever gets here)

and supposedly the proposed titles for the last 2 are

The Winds of Winter
A Dream of Spring or A Time for Wolves.

I wonder who Martin's heirs are going to hire to do the last 2.

I'm assuming he changed the title of the last one from "A Time for Wolves" because there are going to be NO FRAKKING STARKS LEFT.

Speaking of Starks... if this turns out to be right then it's a gigantic spoiler, but it's still just a theory so far... you all know the R+L=J theory?

Yes, I like the R+L theory.

Pretty much. He's obviously spending a vast amount of time thinking and writing about the NY Giants, the terrible Wild Cards book series, what the figurines for the Ice And Fire series should look like, that a replica "Needle" sword is now available, and so on, and so on. Basically anything and everything other than working on the series.

That said, I commiserate. He clearly has no idea where to go with the series now that he's killed off most of the likeable characters and can't explain half of what's going on in the storyline. In general, he's not enjoying the work anymore. I doubt we'll ever see an end to the series.

What can you do, though - writing is something you do when the mood is right, and these days for Mr. Martin, it's never quite right.

I agree. I'm as unhappy as anyone, but you can't force someone to come up with something when they're not in the mood. I hate the pushing back of release dates, rewrites, distractions, but these are things that come together for him to write the book. I'll wait until they come out.

It isn't like he is the only good author out there and he says so himself that the books come out when they come out. Anything else is just a guess.

EDIT: For those of you who want more in depth analysis of it, try going here:
http://asoiaf.westeros.org/

Oh, and I also subscribe to R + L = J. I also subscribe to the children of the forest = summer and others = winter. They are basically fighting the last battle constantly and the tides of war represent when winter and summer cycle in and out of westeros. Should the end of the series represent a return to "regular seasons", it would mean the elimination of both the children of the forest as well as the others. Unless martin gives us one of those "happy ever after" endings and only the others are gone.

Wow, I'd completely forgotten about this series! I don't expect Martin will ever finish so I've moved onto reading Steven Erickson who releases high quality books regularly. I also gave up on Sword of Truth, WoT and Hobb's Soldier's Son Trilogy.

Exactly. Asking the guy to finish one book out of a series in five years is hardly "chaining him to a desk". I always thought that once they committed to their publisher, authors had to give a rough estimate of which decade a book would be finished in.
