I have been looking at getting a stove-top tea kettle. yes, i'm sure microwaving the water is faster, but there are just some things i like doing old school style.

i have been browsing around on amazon and i just figured while i was at it, i would check in with my friendly ATOT community.

i will be using this on a gas stove. i usually only have a cup of tea at a time, maybe two. i like kettles that whistle, but that is not a requirement. i also do not have any inclination toward a certain material other than that I have heard metal tea pots make your tea taste funny after a while so i am less inclined to get a metal one.

also, any recommendations for tea brands? i prefer chai tea, but i like earl grey as well. needs to be decaf version.

thanks ATOT fellow tea drinkers for any input!!!

You might also consider electric kettles, they boil water much faster.

I want a personal kettle to bring to work, but I can't find a single electric model that is all metal. They all have varying amounts of plastic that contact water or steam, which I don't care for.

Might have to go with microwaving.

I use a Krups electric kettle, it heats a pint in a couple of minutes then shuts itself off.

I have never found metal teapots making the tea taste funny. Maybe cheap Chinese ones do. My old Revere stainless tea kettle does just fine for me (been using the same one for over 20 years now). Don't spend $250 on a teapot, making tea is about as simple a process as there is.

Republic of Tea makes a very good decaf Earl Grey as well as a good rooibos chai. I also like Arbor Teas for bulk loose leaf tea and they have a good selection of decaf and rooibos teas to choose from.

Wow, $250 to heat water for tea? My poor family is rocking one of these $8 badboys at home.

If the water starts to taste funny you need to either wash it well and get the mineral deposits out of it, or toss it out and buy another one.

This is the electric kettle to get IMO. It's got a gooseneck, so its easy to control pour overs. It's also variable temp which lets you get the water to 205F which is ideal for coffee (most electric kettles I've seen have a preset of 200F, but 205F does a bit better).

This one also doesn't have any plastic inside, if you're against that. I have it and love it.

This one looks very interesting... but does it rust like in the customer photo?

I got the Bonavita for $78 on Amazon. It's price fluctuates between that price bottom and the $95 it's at right now.

The caption under the photo indicates that it is not "rusting" but rather discolored from impurities in the water.

Not liking this... They have two other models available, and they also have people experiencing "rust" issues.

I just want a stove at work. Knowing the f***ing slobs I work with though, they'd probably burn the building down within the first week. Someone already set something on fire inside the microwave -- scorch marks inside it. Shit for brains who sits beside me has a toaster at his desk that stinks up half the floor for an hour (more when he does 3 course meals) cause his lazy ass can't bother to walk to the kitchenette. Obviously, he's never cleaned it out either.

Me mad. Me smash.

I use a cheap enamel kettle that was given to me. It holds water, and accepts heat on the bottom. Not much to a kettle. I do hate whistlers though.

I have the stove top version of this on a gas stove. Two years and no rust or other issues like some of the reviews.

Based on those reviews, I have concluded that people are dumb. Of course if you leave it on the stove and forget it, or heat it up with no water in it, bad things will happen.
