i have a coverrplann with my tv that says if anything goes wrong with it in 4 years they will fix it.
if it is not fixable then they will replace with brand new.

here is the deal:

when watching:
random black rectangles appear all over the screen at random times, these contain weird ascii characters
he can be watching in black and white then the colour fades in and out or vice versa
the ascii characters can also appear rndomly over the screeen when watching tv, followed by a grey screen where u have to turn the tv off and on to watch again.
the tv can make strange loud noises. and take a very long time to turn on. sometimes turning off u need to use the mains.

THESE PROBLEMS HAPPEN RANDOMLY, NO PATTERN AT ALL

this is when i call the serviceplan engineers out they look at it for 10 mins then say, looks ok to me.
so they took it away for 14 days and gave me it back saying that it was fine.
NOW I KNOW IT IS NOT. WE HAVE THE BIG BROTHER OF THE 24 INCH SONY WIDESCREEN AND IT DON`T DO THAT. it`s perfect as all sony products should be.

i have tried it in other house`s ariel connections etc same thing happen.

so what can i do to my tv that will make it blow up beyond repair and get me a new 1.

i did pay £100 for the bloody coverplan. I HAVE BEEN PUTTING UP WITH THIS FOR TOO LONG AND I HATE THEM (COMET - THE SHOP I BOUGHT IT FROM) FPR IT.

it say`s on the coverplan that even if u drop it and smash the tube in they will either fix or repair but i don`t have balls to do that, well i don`t think so. even then could they repair a smashed tube ?

what can i do to it so that when the engineer comes on friday he says NEW TV M8 ! IT`S A RIGHT-OFF, NO REPAIRS.

thankyou for your electrical knowledge everyone
this is causing loads of stress and you guys are the business when it comes to electronics/questons.

I will tell you one thing, when a tech finds you started blowing things up, they get pissed pretty quick and it turns to a COD job.

On TV's good techs know what parts usualy blowout, if you go in and start zapping at random............

And if they do fix it after you "make it bad" (they prolly will) you will have the TV back with the same problem in the first place (unless you get lucky and break the allready broken part)

Stop playing games and at least try to work with the people fixing your TV

I AM IN UK so would not know how to fo a voltage spike.

i bought a coverplan and HAVE WORKED WITH THE ENGINEERS TELLING THEM EVERYTHING THAT I MENTIONED ABOVE (ALL THE FAULTS)

but it`s not as if they ar gonna sit and watch it for ages till one of them randomly happens.

I JUST WANT THE TV I PAYED FOR, A PERFECT SONY, WITHUT ANYMORE DELAY.

If the engineer see`s it`s totally broken them i will get a new 1 next day rathen than BACK TO WORKSHOP FOR ANOTHER 14 DAYS.

se what i mean ?

The trouble you are describing sounds like a digital feed with low signal strength that is losing signal and then resyncing. Get a camera and take some pictures to show the service tech. You will have plenty of time before Friday to get them processed. Get off your duff and do something to help yourself. Without proof, all you are to the company is some sorehead with buyers remorse. The service people are not miracle workers. They need something to go one. Look at the problem from their point of view.

You don't need to show all the faults - just the main one. All it takes is one provable problem and you should get your new TV.

If you nuke the set yourself, you could end up as a suspect of insurance fraud.

Everyone who posted above is correct, take photos with a camcorder or a camera of the problem. By bypassing the system you are opening yourself to a whole lot of potential problems - work with the techs and you will end up happier. And if you are really pissed off about the whole thing, don't buy from Sony in the future and write them a nasty letter.

why not just take it into the store, and turn it on?!? go through the problems together. if you can repeat the problmes in the store in front of them, than i'm sure they would fix/replace wutevers cheaper for them...

otherwise, this is wut you do to break a tv beyond repair.
1. Chuck out the window on to a deep puddle in the street
2. wait for water in puddle to saturate electrical components
3. wait for big mack daddy truck to smash to pieces
4. pick up pieces and place back in oringinal box (preferably with original packing materials, and all manuals.
5. throw in trash as no warrany covers this

One reason for treading softly when presented by such a series of problems is the possibility that you are being unbelievably stupid and the troubles are of your own doing through misuse. I have been there and done that.

LOL 2 questions doesn't it rain a lot in the UK? and Do you have an extention chord for the set? LOL or you could talk to the guys at letsblowitup.com

Disclaimer: I make no claims as to actual knowlege of the amount of percipitation in the UK nor do I suggest doing anything but leave the set on for all the time left prior to the repairmans arrival or taking photos as previously suggested.

Pour brine (about 20 cc) into the back centered between the CRT cathode heaters and the deflection coil.

Turn it on right afterwards to finish the job.

Cheers!

why u even asking this question at this forum?

if u wanna break it...smash the tv tube...the cost to get a new one is about the same price as a TV. maybe not as good as the one u got but a new one anyways.
