Strange and recently acquired video freezing....

Ok, here's the deal:

Recently (a few weeks ago) my computer started stalling on me during games. I formatted, have reinstalled most everything, and it's still doing the same thing. The freezing goes like this: Game usually loads fine, but anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes in, the video either freeze-frames, or goes white/black. Sound still works, ctr-alt-del works, and it seems like everything is running fine...except the video is frozen.

The comp has also been known to stall during movie playback (avi's and such).

I'm thinking it has something to do with either my video drivers or dx8. Anyone have any input/similar experiences they'd like to share?

1ghz Tbird
MSI K7T Pro2a w/ Via 4.29 4in1's installed
384mb 133mhz RAM
WD Expert 27gig dma66 HDD
Creative Labs GeForce 2 GTS (32mb) w/det. 6.31 drivers and dx8
SB Live! w/ latest drivers
Etherlink Card (3com Etherlink XL)
DVD Decoder Card
Mitsumi CD-Rom, Creative DVD, and Creative CD-RW
Floppy Drive o' L33tn3ss

The system worked fine as is (6.31 det's, etc.) for a few months, so I'm feeling that the problem is software related (which is what brought dx8 to mind). Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hey,

I have a couple of questions for you:

Is the system being overclocked. If so, how? I imagine you tried a lower clock setting, but, if not, try that.

The video card can become damaged (in my experience) from overcloking and may become more sensetive.

Also, is there anything that you have installed prior to the crashes. You mentioned Direct X. Has that been installed recently? Perhaps a driver?

I had a problem with an Asus A7v and a tnt2 ultra and aureal vortex 2 not being able to share IRQ when one particular driver was installed.
