Strange Beeping Noise

I just put a new (to me) motherboard and processor in my computer. I had to reinstall windows in order to get the new setup to work. Now when I plug in my speakers they produce a beeping noise (MIDI type). I can play music on top of the beeping noise, but I really want to get rid of it. Any body have any idea what is going on?

Onboard sound, expansion sound...a bit more detail might help...does it only happen in windows, or in the bios too?

I don't know what onboard or expansion sound means. It happens in both bios and windows. It starts at different times in bios and is continous until I windows shuts down completely. If I fool around with the bios settings the beeping seems to start at latter times. I just put in a asus K7M. I was told it had an integrated sound card but now I am doubting that. You think that could be the problem?

Ive never really heard of a problem quite like yours, but there are some things you can try to narrow down the cause.

#1: try some headphones...maybe your speakers are bad
#2: Find out if you have a PCI soundcard (add-on) or an onboard soundcard (built into the motherboard)

If its happening in the bios, its clearly a hardware problem....either the speakers or the sound plug might be bad

It sounds like a warning for CPU overheat or low voltage alarm. Disable the motherboard monitor.

Thats a good idea, but would a cpu warning beep only come through the speakers?

Sorry I didn't know what you meant by expansion sound. My mother board definitly has on board sound. I tried turning all the monitoring stuff off in bios, I assume that is where you do it, and that didn't change anything. I don't have any ear phones around, but I will try to round up some ear phones and another set of speakers to check them. I think that is a good step. I might try reformating too because I need to do that again anyways. I don't think it is the sound card plug because I can play music and it sounds fine (just on top of the beeping). Thanks for the help guys

If you hear the noise in bios, formatting certainly will not help your issue...did you get a change to try some other speakers/headphones?
