Strange high pitched pulsing sound from my Connect3D GTO

My card is making a weird high pitched sound every time I run the CPU tests in 3d mark 2005. Strange thing is that if I lower the GPU speed down to 250, the sound goes away. Also, I don't get that sound when I'm running the regular game tests. I have a antec smartpower 2.0 500watt psu, so that shouldn't be the problem. Anyone know what the problem is?

Well if it doesn't happen in anything else i'd just stop playing 3dmark and play some games instead

Are you sure your video card is the source of the noise? I'm just wondering . . .

CPU tests should not stress your video card at all (640x480 isn't too stressful ) . . . also it's not a good idea to "downclock" your GPU so low (without using a modded BIOS) . . . this can cause problems just like overclocking too much can . . .

Well, if I were getting low scores or something, I wouldn't mind. But I don't want there to be something wrong with the card and having it die on me.

I'm sure the video card is causing the noise. I've unplugged all the fans except the CPU fan and all the hard drives to make sure it wasn't anything else. Also, if I underclock the GPU and the noise goes away, I'm pretty sure that means its the video card.

If the problem only occurs with the 3DMark05 CPU test and in NO OTHER 3D applications I would say it could just be some sort of weird fluke/bug. If your card really is defective/unstable/has a problem, etc. that problem will be manifested sooner or later in other 3D applications as well . . . also it could just be the fan, and not your video card. In which case you could just replace it . . .

I just replaced the stock fan with an ATI Silencer. I've try turning off the fan just for that test and it still makes the noise

It also shouldnt be a heat problem since the temps don't go over 60C

Certainly I hope you didn't turn the fan ALL THE WAY OFF . . . :Q

Hmm, if it's not the fan, then I suggest you call ATI or Connect3D. They should be able to help you out . . .

I did, but the temps never rose above 60. Its pretty cold in my house right now, my CPU is idling at 17C right now with a XP90 on it.

Dude that's cold . . . 17C idle with an XP90? Even when it's around 50-60F in my house my CPU never goes below 24 or 25C idle (on an XP90C) . . .

Electronics noise sometimes happends..my 6800GT did this..dunno why.. maybe call or email manufacturer since I can't tell if it's bad or good. high pitched like that I can understand why it would get on your nerves.

Did you flash your GTO with the XT bios? And did you overclock it?

I flashed it with a modded x800gto bios that unlocked all 16 pipes but left the clocks at stock. I've been mildly overclocking it for games that need it.
