Strange issues with Asus P8P67 Pro

Hi all,

I've got a couple strange issues with my new Asus P8P67Pro that I can't figure out, so I was hoping maybe someone here would have some ideas.

1. From a cold boot, the computer will register power, spin up the CDRom, but no video signal is sent. It never boots because I don't get the "Windows" sound when it first hits the desktop. I have to hold the power button for 5 seconds to force it to shutdown, then restart it and it works fine. I can reset it or restart it without a problem. I can shut it down and restart it without issue too. It's just the cold boot. I have no idea what's going on here.

2. Occasionally, the system powers down my USB ports. I can't find a specific trigger, I'll be using it fine and then just suddenly the mouse and keyboard are no longer powered. I can plug the mouse back in and it gets power, but the keyboard won't. It's not from disuse, I've had it happen while gaming, I've had it happen while reading a wikipedia page.

I can't figure it out, any help or suggestions are appriciated.

Intel 2600k with a Tuniq 120 currently at stock
8 gigs patriot DDR3 1600 at stock
Asus P8P67 Pro
EVGA superclocked Geforce 570
Crucial SSD
Two Hitachi 1TB drives
CL X-fi
Plextor DVD burner
Corsair 650W power supply

SSD is on the Intel 6Gbs, the two Hitachi's are currently on the 3Gbs ports, as I haven't gotten around to moving them to the JMicron 6Gbs ports yet. The SSD is the boot drive.

put first boot option in boot tab as your DVD
put second option as bootmanager

(I assume your Hitachi's dont have O/S?)

See my next post for a better explanation

I can't help with the second issue, but I had the same exact issue that you described in point #1. I managed to fix it, but I'm not by my desktop so I can't give you the exact steps. Essentially, I went in to the UEFI set up, and selected the 'Advanced Option' choice. One of the tabs in the advanced menu (roughly the fourth one over) has options for powering up certain items during start up. By default, everything was set as disabled. I enabled the power up for my video card (I don't remember if it was labeled as PCI or PCI-EX).

Since I've done that, I haven't had any issues.

Prior to changing the settings, I had to do the exact same thing. Power up my PC, hold down the power button, and immediately restart. It always restarted fine but I obviously didn't want to keep doing that.

Let me know if you can't figure it out and I'll get more detailed instructions when I can get to my PC.

re #1. Try booting with only 1 stick of RAM. It might help.
If your box boots up with 1 stick, you may try more...

It's been like that with my board.

Here is what worked for me:

1. Go in to Advanced Mode in the UEFI set-up
2. Select the third tab - 'Advanced'
3. Select the last choice - 'APM'
4. Change 'Power on by PCIE' to enabled

I did this a couple of weeks ago and haven't had any issues with cold booting my PC since then. Good luck.

If this is indeed the culprit of the problem than it's a BIOS bug. Before doing that it would be intresting to switch off the power supply, wait a minute, switch it back on and then press the power button to see if cold boot this time works.
