I have a Pentium D 805 2.66ghz with stock Intel CPU fan, Asus P5LD2-VM mobo and 2gb (2x1gb Dual Channel) Corsair PC2-4200 DDR2-533.
If i use the "Auto" O/C setting in the bios to get a 10% increase, i can boot up my rig and it's stable. FSB would be at 147mhz, so the CPU would be running 147x20=2.94ghz. now if i try 15%, my rig won't post.
however if i set it to Auto at 10% and i do a soft reboot and manually O/C my CPU at 151mhzx20=3.0ghz, everything runs stable. if i do a "restart' using my OS, everything is fine and it reboots, posts and i can get back into my OS. mind you at that setting my CPU is running fairly hot, on heavy load it reached 60C/140F, but stable none the less.
but i can't get it to even post at the 3.0ghz if i turn off the machine and turn it back on. but i can soft reboot it at 3.0ghz IF i set it to Auto 10%, let it boot, soft reboot and then manually set it to 3.0ghz.
can anyone give me any suggestions WHY this would be happening? it's not like the CPU can't handle being run at 3.0ghz.
