You want to build what I built. Two computers in one.

A64 X2 4400+
4GB OCZ EL Platinum DDR400
Dual 7800GTX.

Cut it in half and you have two crazy gaming systems.

I thought single video cards (or video cards in SLI mode) can only do D3D acceleration on one monitor. Thus, if you want both iterations of EQ2 to be accelerated (the only way you're going to get it to run properly) is two video cards, one driving each monitor.

You will need This

With a dual core system and the eqw app, you should be ok. Dual core is absolutely critical for playing 2 games smoothly simultaneously.

This IS possible.

I don't remember where I saw it (atech? THG? overclockers.com? i dont remember), but there is a motherboard that will support TWO simutaneous users. It's like having 2 PCs in one case, but a lot of the components are shared.

Bingo.

The cost of running it one machine is too high, and it will still run like crap...

You are far better off with 2 single core systems than a dual core and dual graphics card system for this. (i played Dark Age of Camelot for 3 years, dual boxing sucked on one PC, even ultra-high end dual CPU systems lagged).

I agree, attempting to run on one machine sounds like a nightmare in the works, an expensive one at that.

I didn't read through all the replies, but when I played Star Wars Galaxies I used one install on the desktop computer but edited a file withing the SWG folder to run 2 games at once. Best place is to look in EQ2 forums and I wouldn't be surpised if someone already had a similar solution.

Running 2 SWGs wasn't too bad on my computer, unless I had to travel to one planet with one toon, then alt-tabbed you would feel the performace hit for a bit while it loaded data from HDD to RAM.
